That would be the work of Tim Martyn Jones - now there’s a guy who doesn’t get the credit he deserves for keeping basketball going on Merseyside. Great guy to boot as well. Couldn't agree more. One of the best.

Schools seem to be a common theme in this thread & my experience is no different. I had been to Hemel once before but my real introduction was when my son's school had a visit & got free tickets, they followed it up with free tickets & that was me hooked absolutely. My son was 11/12 at the time, he's now 34! My journey has meant I've had to follow the team from Hemel to Milton Keynes to London in many different home venues! Still love it!!

Like SaintPat, my first experience of basketball was watching Ovaltine Hemel Hempstead in the early 1980s. I read game previews and reports in the local free paper which came through my letterbox, and with little else to do in Hemel on a Saturday night, decided to give it a try. Kept going back and I was hooked. Then moved job with my company back to Scotland, got married, started a family, and went without basketball for well over a decade.
Started watching the Rocks near the end of their first season in Glasgow, 2003/4. Jerry Williams/Terrance McGhee team. Got season ticket for the following season and have been following Rocks continuously since then. Still waiting for Rocks to win a trophy!

2002/2003 rocks did a ticket thing through the schools. Not sure if free or heavily discounted. I think they targeted certain authorities was by who's schools played the game after school.

I'll never forget Julio Polliti (sp?) and his back hairs poking out of his vest at Thames Valley. . It's why I don't sleep much.

Liverpool's American point guard Leroy Shaw did a mini clinic at our school in 1980 and gave us free tickets to a game v Leeds. The game went to overtime and finished something like 101-100. How could I not go back? Astoundingly a very grainy copy of the game popped up on youtube a couple of years ago. Great find. The late Keith Hawkswell @ No. 11 and Yuseph Hedar @ No. 4 for Leeds. Dave Ransom coaching. Don't recognise any others, I think this may be slightly after 1980. Did Liverpool have a NBL team at that time?
