The Radisson RED Glasgow Rocks have appointed Vincent Lavandier as Interim Head Coach for the remainder of the 2018/19 BBL Season.
Lavandier, a French native, has amassed a wide array of experience within different environments having coached in the French professional leagues for many years. Although this is his first stint in the BBL – he brings a degree of familiarity having worked with many members of the Rocks squad during his time in France.
Owner Duncan Smillie said:
“We are thrilled to announce Vincent as our interim head coach until the end of this season. We have almost half of our fixtures left in the regular season and we are excited that Vincent has joined us in our push for the playoffs. We originally met Vincent around 18 months ago and he hugely impressed everyone with his technical knowledge, flair, and all-around passion but the timing wasn’t right, so we are grateful to finally now be able to work together
Vincent has worked with several of our players previously in Gareth, Bouna, Tadas and Greg, all of which are very excited about his arrival. There haven’t been many continental coaches in the BBL and this guy is a first class coach. We welcome Vincent to our organisation, city and league, he will arrive this weekend and is raring to go – Vive La Rocks”
When asked about his new position, Vincent Lavandier said:
“My coming to Glasgow Rocks as Head Coach is a great opportunity, and a pride. Moreover, I am satisfied to meet Gareth Murray and Greg Pryor whom I trained in France. However, the road will be long and difficult to go to the playoffs. I count on the daily involvement of players to make a major effort to succeed in this challenge. The whole team will have to work even more.
Finally, I especially thank Duncan Smillie and the organization of the Rocks for their trust. Let’s go Rocks!”
Coach Lavandier’s first task is an away trip to rivals Newcastle Eagles on March 8th, with the team returning to the Emirates to play on March 15th vs. Manchester Giants in the first half of a double-header weekend – tickets available here.
