Should Vince Macaulay be worried?
London City Royals pride themselves on having some of the best British, and specifically London, talent in the game. And they appear to have a budget unlike any other BBL team (what with the rumoured £8K a month for MBA). Should Vince Macaulay be worried they they’ll attempt to poach some of Lions best players, the likes of Robinson, Spencer, Guede, Okoro, this summer?
I’ve thought this before, specifically with Robinson. He’s exactly the type of player Royals would recruit. Plus he’s already got links to a number of other Royals players (MBA even being his son’s godfather). But I’ve always reassured myself that Robinson wouldn’t leave Lions for Royals because, well, Royals aren’t as good team as Lions. However, after winning the Trophy final it looks like moving to Royals might not be the risky move I initially thought it would be.
I know a lot of the Lions players have a great relationship and loyalty to Vince. However, should the opportunity arise for them to earn more money, stay in London, and play for a title winning team with guys they consider family – would they take it?
What are your thoughts? Am I needlessly worrying, or could we see an exodus from Lions to Royals this summer?

I guess it all depends on how much dosh royals have. Robinson and Spencer yes. Doubt they’d push thd boat out for Okoro and Guede.

Robinson and Spencer would be my primary concern, of the Brits anyway. Let’s be honest, we all like the idea of loyalty... but money talks. If they’re offered more money and can stay in London I couldn’t blame them for switching alliances. Robinson has to be number 1 on Royals hit list.

Loyalty doesn't really exist in sport. It most certainly won't exist in a league where wages are generally poor and any raise could make a difference.

If the money's good enough then yes. But if it's a straight choice or only a minor pay rise, the stability of the Lions has to count for something. Three finals in the last 10 months, established top 2 in the league, steadily growing attendances, a core group of players - Royals can't boast of that, yet. If you're onto a good thing, you'd have to think hard about short term gains versus long term unpredictability.

I struggle with the concept that any team outside of Riders and Eagles is stable. I wouldn't put Lions in that bracket and i'd wager that anyone involved in running a BBL club would struggle to keep a straight face.

Robinson isn't going to royals. All the others at midnight madness tour team players, he isn't. He stated it's about getting consistent money, hes been around long enough to know the royals bubble will burst and hell be out of pocket.
Spencer is a lions boy through and through, he wont go join a rival when he plays for his childhood team.
The others quite possibly will jump ship but aren't key players.
Only the top 2 brits money wont count in the salary cap, Ashley, MBA and justin wouldn't all fit under it

But just because they can paid big money to a couple of players doesn't mean they can to 3 or 4. I'm intrigued about the visas

He stated it's about getting consistent money, hes been around long enough to know the royals bubble will burst and hell be out of pocket. But Robinson has also publicly said that there should be no shame in following the money. BBL players aren’t NBA players, they could benefit from a small pay rise as much as most of us could. That’s where it worries me slightly should Royals offer him an extra £10K or so next season (especially as he already has friends on the team and wouldn’t need to move his family). But I totally take your point about stability too. Sometimes following the money can result in you earning less in the long run, and I hope he recognises that. Royals already have the most fluid roster in the league, it doesn’t feel like anyone’s got a guaranteed place there (unless perhaps MBA and Hamilton – for as long as there’s the money in the bank to pay them!). Whereas it feels like Vince will have a spot for Robinson for as long as wants.

As long as he’s good enough!
Vince will be cooking up something to ensure he keeps Jason a Lion.

Jordan Spencer would be my target if I were a coach looking to poach one of Lions' guards. He's come on leaps and bounds this season AND he has age on his side.

The only reason to push the boat out for Okoro is if it's without a paddle. If only he was 10% as talented as he thinks he is

Elsewhere my sources say, no one team just doesn't want to re sign

If what you are saying is true that may be a result of the endless switching at PG - he would be getting lots more minutes in some other teams. Think Douse & Lascelles may want to move on- certainly the former. With Clark & Connor sharing PG duties there's not a lot left for them, especially Lascelles.

...the likes of Robinson, Spencer, Guede, Okoro, this summer? Sooo, Robinson then? I don't think Vince will be losing any sleep over Guede and Okoro. Spencer somewhere in the middle The guys that should be sweating are the 6-12th guys on the Royals roster. Because they ain't getting money like that anywhere else in the BBL!

I'm not sure the bottom end of their roster is getting rich. Possibly getting paid might be more of a concern.
