Mvp are reporting that shire has left royals.... where does that leave them! Mentions the costa last year with modest crowds, they must have lost a small fortune

If ever there was a red flag about the direction of a franchise - I think this may be it.
I'll give them two years tops.

It will be the making or breaking of them.
I think it also highlights a major undiscussed issue in British basketball of not enough people available to work and/or volunteer in both the grassroots/development side but also the commercial / professional development side. The same people try to do both and something has to give.
Its one of the main reasons I think Division 1 is so underdeveloped relative to the BBL. Easy to blame BE but clubs should be doing so much more to commercially develop themselves (but you need dedicated individuals/teams working on it).
For his storied reputation as a promoter, I was very disappointed in Shire's development of the Royals over their first season. Very poor crowds (barring a couple of showpiece games), lack of visible commercial development / sponsorship and patchy social media and community outreach were masked by relatively modest success (considering how absolutely stacked their roster was).
If the right behind the scenes team gets their hands on it, I've no doubt that they can establish themselves very well.

Hmmm interesting one.
Do we know where the money was coming from last year? Shire mentions Jon Sawyer as "co-owner" in that press release, so who else owns the club? That roster would not have been cheap...speculating of course but maybe the supplier of said money has pulled out?

According to companies house Jon Sawyer owns 325 shares, Nhamo Shire 300, Jane Sawyer (presumably a relation of Jon) 208, Appleton Entertainment LTD 100, David Gleasure 21 and Timothy Wilde 4. Appleton Entertainment seems to be indirectly owned by a guy called Tom Appleton.

Everton was a more reliable source of sugar-daddyness. If that's a word.

Strange that he seems to think they will go onto bigger and better things in his leaving statement?
I can't figure this one out

Well that's a shock. Jane Sawyer has chucked most of the cash in , apparently. No one ever thought this could be a mess.

He wouldn't have left if he thought it would have gone on to be massive I assure you. Of course. Assuming he had a choice in the matter? Maybe there's been a fallout or clash etc and they all decided it was best he move on Maybe they can't afford to pay him any more? I just kind of think if he knew it was all going to collapse now he's gone he doesn't have to be say anything or be so positive! If he hadn't said what he said I would be assuming it was all about to collapse tbh

Wonder what sort of a squad they will be able to put together. It's great to play basketball with all your mates you grew up with, however how many of them would be happy to do that and not get paid?

Likely the funding is cut now and Shire knows he can't make enough himself and/or for the big name players he brought in
