One word from me on the Makem Takem thread yesterday......
Shame really because I liked the way he played, aggressive dude.
Clearly the Eagles feel they have to re-tool somewhere. Interesting....

Pity, he was a monster on rebounds. I'm going to hesitate a guess that he was just not fitting in especially after fletchers last interview where he quoted that the team were not quite gelling.

Very good player (at BBL level anyway) but could be erratic and never seemed to listen to the coaches. Gutted to be loosing him though. I hope we've got another big lined up as Darius can't play big minutes week after week.

Disappointed clearly a talented player and don't think we used him on the inside offensively enough. Can see why comment about ego and possibly being hard to cosch, but i think you need a strong coach to control that (my opinion) and maybe Ian has tried which this is the right move. Just think other players like Eddie Kai and Nick should be looked at too, as they dont bring anything to court atm. Need a another big asap otherwise we will be shorted handed for league starting next month. At least Glasgow Jr can play now and hopefully Morsell can get going a bit more as he is another with talent so fingers crossed we are all fit and ready for league

They’ve had to make a call on the passport issue and 4 into 3 didn’t go so they have clearly decided Mitchell was most expendable

Very surprised he's been cut - thought he was a very effective player inside. Nevertheless, it enables Eagles to play Glasgow and when his passport is enabled that'll free them to hire another USA forward to add depth. Clearly judging that a PG offers more atm.

Looking at his personal Facebook seems his release was amicable, and if you follow him on social media you'll know he isn't the kind of guy to bite his tongue! Probably have no shortage of offers.

Wow, gutted to see Mitchell leave. He definitely made going to the ECA a more enjoyable and unpredictable experience over the couple of months he's been with us.
From a pure playing point of view I think it leaves a big hole for is going forward. His rebounding has been huge for us this season although he's been a bit wild at times (jacking up mental threes in crunch time). Surely that comes down to managing him effectively though? His social media presence is pretty all over the place, but I always felt this added to the fun of watching him play. Ironically this has come after what I thought was his most mature and effective game for us.
Going forward I guess a lot hinges on the progress of Glasgow Jnr's passport coming though as to what calibre of big man we can bring in to replace Mitchell. If Glasgow is just going to be our third import for the rest of the season that doesn't really make sense to me. Unless they have something special up their sleeve.

Well Its All About Everyone's Opinion. I'm A Season Ticket Holder & Thought & Have Said John Would be Away Before The League Starts. We See Things Differently Sometimes, But His Aggression, Tough Defence ETC I Didn't See Much Of In Crucial Games & Last Minutes When He Was Often Taken Off, Which Says Something?? Surely Any Basketball Player Of His Physique & Height Would Be Reasonable & Get Average Blocks & Points. But Looking At The Games So Far He Didnt Seem Dominating In Big Games With Good Centres Playing Against Him. He Wasn't Involved Much With Close Game Last Minutes & Like Dukic Didn't Want To Know In The Paint In Big Games & Rather Stay Outside & Shoot Hail Mary Threes When We Need An Enforcer In The Paint. He Struggled With The Riders Old Fashioned Basic Moves Centre & Ended Up With 8 Points I Believe & 1 Foul, Even If You Have To Be Careful Of Fouls You Don't End Up With Players Scoring 20+ & Leaving The Court With One Foul, Not Made An Imact & Was Lay Up'd Upon Many Times. When Fletch Is Looking In Transition He Rarely Passes To Mitchel As His Finishing Was Average At Best. Soon As Riders Came To Play With A Good Centre They Targeted Their Big Guy Straight Away. If He Was As Good As People Think He Would Have Mauled Defences & Had Massive MVP Games. It Seems Like Fletch Has Scored Very Little Which Is VERY Unusual & Maybe It Was To get The Best From Mitchel, But Fletch's Body Language Hasn't Been Good In Transition & He Has Had More Turnovers Than Ive Seen Ever Before. I Guess He Was Trying To get More From John. Even Rocks Centre Hit 20 +. But Hey We All Can Put Good & Bad Points In The Mix. Good Luck To Him Wherever he Goes But It Shows Too, That Darius Has Had To Play Out Of His Skin In His Late Career To Make Up What Were Lacking.

I agree to a certain extent, I was just looking at it from an entertainment value I guess. His basketball IQ wasn't great at times, especially if you compare him to Victor Moses last year. But then I always felt Moses was too quiet out on the court and certainly his attitude wasn't great at times either. We must remember this is the BBL also, all players have faults and it's just about trying to find a group that works well together. Ultimately I trust the organisation to bring someone else in of a decent calibre in time for the league season starting. There is the makings of a good team there I think.

Just think other players like Eddie Kai and Nick should be looked at too, as they dont bring anything to court atm All of those guys are on next next to money, they won't be getting cut. All 3 are decent squad guys but once they get big minutes or start we'll be in big trouble.

At least Glasgow Jr can play now and hopefully Morsell can get going a bit more as he is another with talent so fingers crossed we are all fit and ready for league Agree - I think we've seen enough this season to see Eddie and Kai are not productive enough - put that money in the pot towards a good big now that Mitchell has been cut. Brought some bite on the boards to eagles which was desperately needed after last couple of seasons. Maybe inexperience led to some oncourt issues as this was his 1st pro contract. Very frustrating at times seeing him throwing hail mary shots which was not his role. Jury still out for me on Schlitzer - the fact that no one remembered him from Surrey days rang alarm bells - had opportunity towards end of both Rocks and Sharks home games to hit crucial points but missed them. I did think that at time of announcing his signing that I hoped he would have more impact that Chris Behrens. Personally think it doesn't work having both Fletcher and Glasgow playing together - Sharks worked out how to stop them playing in 1st Cup home game. In one respect, it's good to see hard decision being taken to cut a player at this stage in season by Eagles. It has not been their modus operandi in the past (the Rev Taylor who couldn't run a screen and then a long time ago and later in season was Defares who wouldn't shoot. I'll ignore Midgley as that was clearly a personal issue being the only ones I can remember. ) No offence to Giants - I don't this will have any impact on tonight's game

Good to see - correct approach from Bigz. God help us if IRF was posting. Dread to think what rubbish he'd be making up. I don't think anything else needs to be said by club. Unfortunately for both parties, it hasn't worked out

So it turned out Glasgow Jr can't play til he gets the passport because there are a limited number of registration changes you can make during the season (9?) and the Eagles have already made a lot (7?) - info from memory of the webcast commentary.
