I have held my breath overnight in order to try and provide a more reasoned summary: 1. Sheffield were excellent sparked by good ball movement (McKnight) and deadly 3 point shooting in H1 by Lewis (where was the defence?). 2. Newcastle were woeful in all respects, Mathew and Lasker excepted. Poor game plan, no coaching answer to in-game adversity, poor movement, poor defence, poor execution, outplayed both in and out, and poor attitude. Not sure which was worst - the poor attitude or lack of defence. Suspect one contributed to the other. My turkey could have put up a better fight. 3. Officials were the stars of the show. Not sure about either the Morsell technical or McKnight’s Hail Mary at the end of H1 (will give them the benefit of the doubt) but Cashaw definitely had his feet planted in the no charge zone for Fletcher’s 4th and I’ve never seen both teams ready to play but no officials out. All that said, it made absolutely no difference - Eagles could have lost to the half time entertainment last night. 4. Change of plan, attitude and execution required on Sunday in Glasgow. I think the attitude for me is the biggest worry. In games against good teams this year we have either thrown away decent leads and not been able to stop the rot or started badly and never recovered resulting in an embarrassing blowout. Can only really think of Riders and Rocks away when we played well for a whole game. The stark contrast to how Sharks conduct themselves (the last game they played at ECA they came back from a 15 point deficit) as a team is alarming to see. It just seems like heads go down and people either hide (hello Kai and Nick!) or channel their frustration at the refs. Only Eddie and Drew showed a willingness to dig in and fight for some pride yesterday. It's all back slapping and having a laugh when we're blowing out Manchester but when the chips are down we don't have the character in the team to make something happen. It might be early days, but I dont hold any hope of this team making an impression in any competition this season. Massively frustrating. Soon as I saw this game coming up I knew you could lose it. Same with the rocks game. Games v Giants don't help anybody and if anything bring in complacency

I was surprised to see people commenting on how well Gettys was settling in using the game against Manchester as an example. I was at that game and it meant nothing as they were so badly under manned. Sharks does seem to be a bad match up at the moment for us. I think a lot of that is because McKnight is able to shut down Fletcher so effectively. Definitely my favourite point guard I've seen over the last year up here. I guess I'll have more of an idea about where we are tomorrow as I'm travelling up to Glasgow for my sins!

Not that big a prediction really, we've won 7 out of the last 8 against Newcastle now!
