Bigz I'd spot on about Shire, he has done very nicely out of the Royals first season, bit a nice person, people should be looking in his direction rather than lambasting Jon Sawyer who trusted Shire with the money, it was too late once he realised what was going in to save the club. Oh and by the way Hersey, you talk some bollocks on here sometimes, go have another drink! See whilst Sawyer trusted Shire I still think its naive that he chucked a load of money at something without much research. His loss at the end of the day mind, and I am told he wanted to do things properly by someone who was highly invovled at the start of the Royals with more experience in the game than any of us, so whilst his intention was good the lack of research has ultimately cost him dear. What irks me even more about Shire is the sanctimonious way he went about everything - "A force for change" as if he knew better than everyone in the BBL - better than the likes of Paul Blake and Russ and Vince who (and say what you want because I have in the past) has actually kept a franchise going for over 15 years (and probably longer) like he was just going to swan in and win the lot and make British basketball the best league in the world with his superior knowledge. Im actually getting angrier as I type. Remember all that crap he put in the press about London needing to have a team people can get behind? Yeah mate, they play at the copper box. Can anyone tell me what hes actually done in terms of professional basketball? Midnight madness (as IRF pointed out at the time) hasnt ran for years, Hersey has already pointed out the kids hes let down elsewhere, and when you actually do your research its becoming increasingly obvious to me hes ridden the coat tails of some mates he has in London who are good players (and ultimately lost out as a result of the Royals) and is nothing but a bit of a charlatan hiding behind the mask of a nice guy (and with some of his Royals comments the mask slipped to reveal unbelievable arrogance). By the way - Herse you and I get on mate but Im not sure what the newbs to the board have really done wrong? Aside of the drink thing... and ill join you if youre having one!

When Giants folded their season tickets got their fans into any BBL game. It gained chester some new fans. It would be a nice gesture if it was repeated.

I love London City Royals. Not only did their demise (absolutely) smash all kinds of records for hits on my blog this week, they helped Leopards do this. So cheers chaps, you were utterly clueless and outstandingly arrogant at times, but maybe you've helped keep us up. Fantastic and I like the fact that decency and morality is a einner

This all sums this board up. Yeah, they're not known for being fans of basketball kits on here. I was wrong. Turns out we love talking to basketball kits on here.

Maybe that's total co-incidence

I think there is something in Hersey’s comments about Royals effectively stealing success. I think there is a parallel with the recent salary cap scandal in rugby where Salarycens have been found to consistently cheat the system and therefore buy their way to success.
I don’t recall anyone on this site wishing ill on Royals or hoping they failed. However their emergence was greeted with a huge amount of skepticism in relation to how it could possibly be sustainable or feasible. Hope and good intentions are not a business plan or strategy. By seemingly offering way above usual BBL salaries to several high profile players with no real plan in place to fund it or ensure they fulfilled their financial commitments to those players is irresponsible and unfair. So if you were running a BBL club or NBL club on a shoestring and exhausting huge amounts of time and energy trying to do things properly I think you’d also be a little bit bitter about those who achieved short term success in this manner.
It’s a shame that the capital city does not have at least two professional basketball clubs and I do have some sympathy for the players because opportunities for professional British players to earn good money at home are few and far between. I can’t blame them for taking a punt that it will come good.
Hopefully something that’s been suggested to help those out with season tickets will come to fruition and keep them in the sport.

So, what have we learnt?
Bringing a brand new team into the league is difficult, is there likely to be any new teams joining soon after seeing how this played out?
Where are the new teams going to come from? Solent Kestrels, seem to be capable but the new facilities are arguably too small. Reading Rockets, applied many times I believe but always turned away. Hemel Storm, facilities are pretty dated. Worthing Thunder, facilities probably too small and dated, were in the BBL recently but I guess something major would have to change to go back in.
Plus, why would an NBL team who were enjoying the odd bit of silverware and some decent matches in front of packed crowds want to join the BBL anyway? For one letter different on a piece of silverware they haven't got a hope of winning?
With teams like Riders and Eagles getting their own venues the gulf between the established teams and any newcomers becomes bigger every season. Hard to see how the league might grow from 11 teams, in fact it's easier to see a future where there are less than 11.

Once again Hersey you are talking bollocks, I'm not abcd123, I rarely look at this site anymore, and haven't posted for approx 2 years, so the pesky ip address cannot possibly the same, and as for the drinking comment, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, you often mention Zaire Taylor plays with a bottle of whisky inside him, total bollocks, you are a fool.

A fool? I’m guessing he can spell foghorn correctly....... you have a posts history of 2.....so it would actually be true to say you haven’t posted previously on this site before this thread in your misspelt guise anyway. Maybe contribute something other than abuse and you might find it worth sticking around? Just a thought.

Hersey, you are a bigger fool than I realized, I didn't say I never read the board, I said rarely and I haven't posted for a few years, pay attention to detail, it's important. And you mentioned on here years ago about Zaire and said not too long ago about a prominent NBL player, playing regularly with a bottle of whisky inside him, I didn't read it personally, someone screen shotted it and sent it too me, they couldn't believe what a bitter, prick you were, want to know anything else? Oh congratulations on getting Orlan, instead of going the entire season without a win, that will now change, I e thing, don't gloat on another person/persons demise, bits not a good quality.

I've 'made my debut' because the Royals have now folded. Things will come out, and a lot of it will be lies or at the very least inaccuracies. I'm here to clear it all up as it goes on.

If I had a box of popcorn, I'd be sat back enjoying the carnage right now. It's making my working day pass quicker, though.
