Interesting read, and I agree with almost all of your analysis. However I’d say you’ve got to include Crystal Palace (the team) as a success story, along with Kingston, Towers and Leopards as you say - although I admit it might be a difficult comparison given a lot Crystal Palace’s success pre-dates the BBL. But they were still a highly successful team based in London regardless. And are we only not including Lions because they’re still in London? Because even if they folded tomorrow I’d say what they’ve achieved in the past 7 years is as much of a successful as most other BBL teams in recent years.

I know you're probably fed up with moving around & possibly just fed up with running a club, but surely Leopards to CP has to be an option worth considering. I have no doubt you could run a club successfully from there.

Crystal Palace now simply isn't affordable, for the Leopards or the Lions, or anyone for that matter. Considering what a dump it is turning in to, the fees are ridiculous.

I’m not saying it’s not a bit decrepit (although has a lot of history) as a venue, but not affordable for Leopards or Lions? I can’t speak for Leopards, but Lions have (somehow, just about) afforded the Copper Box Arena for six full seasons now... if they can afford that they can afford Crystal Palace NSC. They’re even managed by the same company, so they’ll be priced accordingly. Just because it wasn’t affordable for Royals don’t assume it won’t be affordable for anyone else.

I could be wrong here, but didn't Lions have a few problems when they played in it that first season?

Go on, then, throw us a number. As Mr Tall has said in his own subtle way, nothing you've posted so far has had any detail or revealed anything that couldn't have been guessed by anyone with a reasonable understanding of British basketball.
Of course, Royals walked in waving money around and generally giving it the big one. It's possible that the management of Palace bumped up the price because they knew Royals would pay. It's called good negotiating. GLL were very good landlords when Lions were there, obviously there's been issues at the Box but they can sell that for other events much easier than they can sell Palace. Plus, of course, the Box is too big for them to make any real money out of Lions on a regular basis.

London Lions are now also offering all London City Royals season ticket holders free entry to all home games for the remainder of the season - so they’ve got a choice of 2 teams to switch their alliance to!

Also, along with Surrey Scorchers and London Lions announcements, the BBL have said the following:
“holders of advance match tickets for Royals games will be able to exchange them for seats at the British Basketball Play-Off Finals at The O2 in London on Sunday 17 May 2020.”

Yes you're right, affordable was a poor choice of word on my part. Crystal Palace is not a sensible choice for any team given the state of it and the fees they charge. £3000 per week for training there, £1500 for 'security' on a game night, £300 per week for the logo to be stuck to the court. All that with broken boilers, cold showers and generally poor facilities. The cost of putting on a game at the Palace was £5000 per game. When the Royals postponed the Rocks game, the £5000 figure for the fine didn't come out of thin air.

Presumably the Copper Box costs a lot more. And I’m not questioning the validity of your numbers, don’t know enough either way to do that, but surely the fine Royals got for cancelling the Rocks game was determined by the standard BBL rules, not how much it would have cost to hire the venue?

I'll question the validity of the figures. They're bollocks. 3k per week to train. Bull****

When I read the £3k a week to train I thought nah. Hersey has put it more eloquently though.

But keep digging. How much did Royals pay up front for the franchise?
