I wonder how much of a training session this will be.
I'll be disappointed if we don't win by at least 30-40 points. Royals smashed them by 72 points, 118-46.

Is there an actual need for a national team in a domestic competition? Surely they could have found someone else from D1, it just looks ridiculous on both parts.

Why does it look ridiculous? Wales have an ever strengthening programme, and provides a look for some talented youngsters. Who knows what will happen

Yeah, if you want a Welsh team then there's Cardiff City (attached to the football team) & Cardiff Met Archers.
Can't play any worse than the Welsh national team. I know they are in a low tier but you'd be better off inviting either of the Cardiff teams, reverse the order of the tie and have Rocks travel down to make it less of a financial burden on either Cardiff team.

TBH I see no point in Team Wales being in the Trophy. they're not going to be competitive and the agreement was that the home nations stopped running senior teams to concentrate on GB. But where did you see the roster? The BW website makes no mention of the game, but it does have this fine quote

Basketball Wales have the roster in their Facebook page. I know of 4 players all decent. One gets limited minutes st Liverpoil the other 3 play in EBL 2

Theres literally no point to this game. May as well give rocks the 20-0.
Does anyone disagree?

Think of the FA Cup 3rd round and top teams struggling on sub-standard pitches... oh wait the BBL are already doing that !

Theres literally no point to this game. May as well give rocks the 20-0. Does anyone disagree? Well I don't do 20-0s. If it turns out I'm not immortal it'll say on my gravestone "here lays Dave, he doesn't do 20-0s". But they should be inviting the top four D1 sides (who aren't Loughborough) into the Trophy, or maybe the top 3 and the Scottish champs rather than this gimmick.

The fact they enter as a National team, not a league team and get battered by 60 makes it even more laughable. They should stop worrying about being called Wales and create a legitimate league team or merge with Cardiff Archers and try make that product big enough to support a BBL side.
I get that if they were called Cardiff it would isolate other cities from supporting them but there needs to be an alternative to calling themselves the national team and getting completely embarrassed because they'll only ever have choice of Welsh players to use.
Let GB manage national team stuff and just become the Cymru Dragons or something.

they'll only ever have choice of Welsh players to use. The irony of that statement. I mean it may be new year and I *may have drank my body weight in Scotch (god I love that country), but youd be amazed at the amount of players who got on the welsh national team by saying "Cymru Basketball" in a mirror three times down the years... *definitely have

Is that a bit like the FAI in football when they couldn't find any decent local talent they looked at players from other countries?
Just trying to understand if I'm getting what you mean.

(d) is a nonsense for a FIBA competition, which makes me wonder how Welsh their teams in other tournaments are. It's hard to imagine there were exhaustive eligibility checks prior to the pre-Christmas tri nations junior tournament.
At the end of the day, it's up to the BBL if they want to invite a team who are going to get tonked and it's up to James Bamfield and his team if they want to play such games - no harm is being done. If it was being done to improve basketball in Wales they'd give them an automatic home draw (instead we have all 4 guest teams playing on the road), but maybe after wins for Worthing & Leopards against BBL teams in recent years, Wales are a safer bet. I'm not sure how logistically feasible it is, but I'd rather see a GB U-20 team in the Trophy if they want an international flavour.

What do you know, I qualify under (d) by virtue of a holiday home.

Any decent lawyer would point out you don't reside in your holiday home. Do you know any decent lawyers?

Any decent lawyer looking for a loophole would say I have two fixed residences in my name and one happens to be in Wales and this has been the case for three years or more. Now you prove which one I've been living in permanently.... The point being if I hadnt told you I used it as a holiday home youd have no clue...

I was seriously asked to go down to their training camps about 5 years ago by a guy who will remain nameless who played on the team for a lot of years as it goes!
