After seeing Yorrik back on court, I feel you don't really see players like him, robbert youngblood around the game much these days, think it what's missing in some teams

Completely agree with this, I grew up and first got into the BBL with the likes of Yorick, Rico Alderson and Malcolm Leak.
Trouble is, these days if a player even looks at a fan or another player with anything other than a smile, there’s a fair few wet wipes complaining somewhere

Too many fans think basketball is only for families which prevents it

You don't have to be violent to be a character in Bball - you're thinking of ice hockey

Tracey Pearson from Guildford Heat quite a few years ago. He was so wide, players just bounced off him. From memory someone in Guildford tried to mug him...guess who won

Not quite in the same mould but I would add Zaire Taylor.

Interesting debate for me this - as to me characters of the game are players that hang around quite a bit and aren't just one season wonders who move on to bigger and better things.
Rico, Yorick, Youngblood, Leak - these people bounced around the league for a number of years.
The "characters" that instantly spring to my mind are also linked with notoriety to an extent (nothing to do with the screen name!) - Vince/Rob P/Fab/Tony Garb and going back further Nick Nurse, its probably because as coaches they have more scope to jump up and down and make a bit of noise and express themselves. Must be said all of the aforementioned coaches are from my experience nice people away from a basketball court!
Going to add a special shout out for Dave Aliu who breaks the mould for me - we were going through a tough time in the last Tigers season but I'd get a phone call from him most Friday nights after games and before the next ones to go over a few things and he'd share his wisdom with me - meant a lot to me that. I'm sure people at Phoenix and Giants will also hold him in high regard - properly top fella.
Oh - and an honourable mention for Andre Smith as a one season character too - purely for his actions when Rob Paternostro was trying to give him a verbal dressing down Vs Leicester (Smith had torn Phil Missere a new one on Court all night as he did most people that year) - Andre simply blew kisses at him and told him he loved him....

Characters at Riders - in their own way of recent times Drew Sullivan (in a serious winners way) Neil Watson (he was OCD. Never stopped talking or singing) Tyler Bernardini - (such a huge asset to the club on and off the court) None of them transcend into being characters for the league as such though I guess Rob P and Vince the biggest characters in the game for me right now as Bigz says

If you are looking for a character, then you can't beat Kenny Pemberton, you just can't keep Leicester out of this thread!

Malcolm Leak may have played for the Evil Empire, but he did save my life
We had Bob Donewald, Rico & Yorick, although not at the same time, and it was definitely crazy. Billy Mims was certainly an interesting character. And of all the crazy Americans we've had last season's campaign with Asante Sandiford really was an experience

Tony Windless, great character on & off court!
Any player/coach that provokes reactions from other clubs fans are great entertainment for me!
Rob & Garboletto always good value, along with Vince but none to match Donewald.
Many opposition fans gave Shawn Jamison stick, he could be Mr Agressive on court but a pussy cat off it! Yorick is always good value and whilst he wasn't in the league for long, Kadiri Richards could provoke a reaction or two!!

Going back a fair few years now, Never a player who would light the league up, but never a player to be messed with, Riders Hilroy Thomas...... now he loved a bit of on court boxing.

You could start another thread, hardest ever player. I wouldn't fancy taking on youngblood when he had a head of steam up!!

I was thinking about slightly nutcase players & my immediate thought was Mark Quashie, when the red mist came down it was so obvious! He was positively scary! I then looked up a name I wasn't sure I remembered perfectly, bit I did. Ernesto Moreno, he had a great temper!! And I found this great report from 1998! Link

Quashie picking up his third foul, followed by three techs - getting his coach chucked out in the process - during the first year of the current Leopards was quite spectacular. The water boy ended up making the subs.

He dropped down to the EBL later on in his life - played against him once or twice. Actually thought he was a nice fella

Its something which has noticeably dropped in the league. Players to busy on social media.
Tony windlass is a great shout. Another former rocks player michael kingma brought something different when we were at the kelvin hall.
