1st of 2 tough games for the Lions this weekend. Surrey have been playing quite well recently & will fancy their chances.
If Lions players are serious about winning the league then they need to find greater consistency then we've shown so far. There haven't been any really convincing performances but in the league we've generally done enough to keep ourselves in the game.

Dare I say it, but I suspect Lions chances of winning are heavily dependent on Soko playing – which presumably we won’t know until the night? Other teams are getting stronger, and if Lions want to any chance of retaining the Championship title they’re going to need to be more consistent with their performance. I’m also interested to see what the crowd will be like… a Friday night game with no discounted tickets options, I wonder how that’ll compare to last Sunday afternoon’s game.

I'm not quite sure why the question of Soko playing keeps coming up. He was never going to be here for the Wolves game, I'm guessing his Christmas holiday also overlapped with the Solent game which wasn't even arranged when he signed. Last weekend he travelled to Plymouth on Fridayto play & then also played on Sunday at the Box. That's not someone who isn't committed to playing for Lions.
From Lions press release last week, we should be announcing another player very soon, hopefully he will also be available for this weekend

But having said that, would you bet your house on Soko playing tomorrow night? Don’t get me wrong, I hope, and think, he will… but I’m not confident enough to say with absolute certainty.

Lions completely dominant 1st half, Ovie showed what an absolute class player he is. Perhaps it was all too easy because Lions came out flat 2nd half & Scorchers finally played some defence. Lions then had to grind out the result & put far more effort in than the 1st half suggested. I hope that doesn't have an effect on Sunday because judging by Sharks result, it doesn't seem they put much energy or effort into their game against Rocks, so they should be far fresher on Sunday.
Huge credit to Scorchers who fought so hard 2nd half when it would have been easier( & perhaps better for them overall) if they'd given the game up 2nd half & conserved the energy of the players who can play against Raiders tomorrow. I hope for them it doesn't have a negative effect tomorrow.

Echo the views above that it might have been more sensible to sit back and give more game time to the bench plus Hawthorne and Kuyinu, given their suspensions tonight.
Scorchers fought hard in the second half but could never close the gap closer than seven and I don’t think anyone really thought they would overturn the huge lead built up by the dominant first half display by Lions. Combination of Peel, Robinson and Soko too hot to handle and Surrey looked at sea with a defensive horror show in the first.
Special mention to Skyler White though, who led all scorers. Great game from him.
Will be interested to see how much game time Thiep gets at SSP from here. There was a very heated exchange between him and Tayo as the teams walked off at half time - the pair of them were out there a good two minutes into the break, as the kids lined up. Tayo was obviously fuming with Thiep’s poor showing, something it looked like coach Creon agreed with when he missed a layup on the buzzer at full time.
Scorchers need an effective big in the paint. Thiep isn’t it and White can’t be expected to do everything at both ends of the court.
