I don’t post a lot on here but I have to say last night was disgusting and not what I pay my money to go and see.
Really contemplating not going to next weeks game against the Sharks, they have beaten us so many times recently and most of them at home. On current home form and recent results at the ECA against them this has all the makings of another beating and I don’t think I can bare to watch that.
But they are my team and I want to support them and I enjoy going to watch the basketball on a Friday night but am already expecting us to lose, how bad is it that we have come to this point where we don’t believe in the team anymore at home and am already talking about an expected loss at home next week before it’s even began.
It always disgusts me to hear that the players are not interested and lack passion. That really pisses me off. It’s like how dare you, we have brought you in to play for this club that has so much history and you disrespect it like that.
Any player that feels that way, don’t care who they are or how much legend status they have with us over the years. If they don’t care enough and show heart, passion and wear the Eagles logo on their chest with pride then they can f@&k off I don’t want you playing for my team.
This is our club at the end of the day, players will come and go but fans will be there for years to come so don’t spoil what we have built over so many years with disrespect.
Really infuriates me.
Cheshire were amazing and although the Eagles were nowhere near it was a joy to watch some of their plays, just a shame it was against us.
PJC what a player he is, love watching him play, plays with so much heart. But everyone of their players did that last night, total opposite to the Eagles.
Obviously we can’t make any changes this season but I think we need to strip it down next season. Have a much younger squad, who is hungry, athletic and wants to win. A team that’s shows passion. If some of these veteran players aren’t up to it then they need to go.
I would much rather watch a young team that may not have a lot of experience but is talented and plays with enthusiasm ands wants to win. They are hungry and want to impress. Even if it means we don’t win as much, but as long as we see a good product on court and know that at the end of the game they have given everything they have and tried their hardest.

Lots of quality US guards in BBL now who can win games for their respective teams on a good night. Like Fletch used to do Fletch still a top guard, however since he's came back to the Eagles he's played in a much worse team both seasons and his had to change how he plays to accommodate. His shooting however seems non existant now which is worrying. I know he's a good player But my comments are really about how several BBL teams have quality guards now who can win games almost single handed when they are hot He used to be a standout. I remember Brooks at sharks standing out as well. Now 4 or 5 teams at least have guards at a similar level or even better than Fletch on their day. I feel he's slowly on the decline (understandably with age) but the quality of guards at other BBL clubs certainly seems higher now than a few years ago He's not the difference between teams like he used to be (I do take on board the quality around him isn't there either)

Yes PJC - exactly what I mean. A great guard doing the kind of things to opposition teams that win matches. A gamechanger. And there are many across the teams now. Don't give up Steve. Although I do think you are in for a long season. For a while your club has talked about going more athletic. They've never really taken that leap though. Fab kept playing too long, Defoe and lasker. And the Williams brothers. Compared to younger athletes just couldn't compete. You see all the other teams and it's mostly young and exciting talent they bring in. I feel your team really needs a much stronger and younger core of British players to build around. But that relies on serious investment and the ability to be ruthless with players mentioned above who have been BRILLIANT servants to your club. You can't have both though. New young Brit players who will stick around a bit that you can add quality US imports to (who may or may not stay around) If lasker, Defoe and Williams are still at your club next season you will have more of the same Look at how many young British players have signed for BBL clubs recently that eagles should have been in the market for IMO It's a serious rebuilding process you need. Starting with 3 or 4 quality young Brits IMO You needed a Jordan Spencer type signing more than any team

He’s an excellent player, 2 decent bigs, and 2 good perimeter shooters, if they aren’t in foul trouble they are a handful

Starting with 3 or 4 quality young Brits IMO You needed a Jordan Spencer type signing more than any team I 100% agree with that. I was worried last season that our Brit players haven't been up to scratch compared with the rest of the league. It was disappointing in the summer to see us sticking pretty much with what we had apart from the imports. Hot take, but I think we may have kept the wrong Williams brother as well (would've preferred to see neither), but at least Jamal (however limited as player) would come in and try and make a difference and play some D. Some might see it as knee jerk asking for this team to taken apart and start again, but the seeds for this were being planted a couple of years ago and it has slowly got worse. I'm excited in a way to see good teams coming to up almost on a weekly basis now, but I at least want to see a competetive game. These players are some of the most well looked after in the BBL with on tap training facilities whenever they want them, it's so disappointing to see them just waste this opportunity when I'm sure there are plenty of players who would love to be a part of the setup we have up here. I can take a defeat on the chin, but not in the manner I've already seen too many times this season. I see people playing harder in pick up games in Leazes Park than what I saw last night, it's just embarrassing for them.

With a crowd of 2600 at the Eagles arena surely that means there's a decent income/revenue for Newcastle to buy in better talent if they are struggling? It's not just ticket prices there's also collateral money from food, merchandise etc?

They wouldn't actually need to invest more just differently invest the money they pay Defoe, Lasker and Williams on 3 younger Brits instead im sure it more than pays for 3 very good and hungry brits Lack of young quality brits has been noticeable for so long at Eagles. I totally understand loyalty and not wanting to rock the boat but successful sports clubs have to be ruthless as well at times sadly

I totally understand loyalty and not wanting to rock the boat but successful sports clubs have to be ruthless as well at times sadly Lasker had a bad night last night, but is normally pretty good and reliable as an impact player coming in from the bench. At least he looks like he cares and brings a sense of urgency to our play that other don't. Williams brings nothing, and I'd rather run a short rotation than give him minutes. His transition play is shocking, and there was a moment in our last game against Sharks where he had to be shouted at as Lasker passed him the ball as he was wide open but not even looking at the play. It's that stuff that annoys me most. Defoe looks well passed his best and this is one season too many for him. Even last year his mid range jumper and fade away was fairly reliable. This year that has gone so far backwards that he's become a liability. Fair enough keep him as locker room guy, but he shouldn't be starting or playing too many meaningful minutes. If that's what he expects then step up or move him on. Eddie Matthew has been one of the main bright spots this season and has taken a big leap forward. His shooting from open looks is reliable and he actually did a reasonably good job of defending PJC last night after being switched on to him in the second half. Again he helps bring an intensity and urgency to our play that others don't. The academy lads look ok, but it's hard to judge when they're being given garbage time minutes at the end of games. I would've rather seen then brought in earlier last night as that game was finished at the end of the third. We have Glasgow Jnr and Morsell to come back in hopefully soon, which should be a big help to Fletcher to take some of the ball handling load away from him. At the moment he is trying to carry some very a average players and looks constantly frustrated out there. Ultimately I'd rather see us run a shorter rotation to eliminate some of the average players we have out there, but don't see that happening. I do take your point that the level guard play has taken a step up since his first stint with us, but he still a very good player given the right tools to work with. As you say IRF, I think considerable money has been invested in some of the players above (as well as Schlitzer and Hussein). It's just been invested in the wrong players at the wrong end of their careers, who are being trusted with more of a role than they are capable of delivering.

Is the issue with Glasgow still down to passport or is he injured? I thought I saw on a thread that he was freed up to play on the team alongside Fletcher.

From what I've heard I think passport is sorted but we are waiting for clearance from FIBA. Not 100% on that, maybe there is someone more in the know than me though. I just turn up to watch games and don't have 'ins' with the club.

I did suggest to Nix management after PJC had played a couple of games we should sign him on a five year deal, "the management" just smiled back!!!

Nick only shots threes never attacks basic and Kai well i give up on what he does! Worrying thing was we only played well in the first 5 mins and they we playing! The while team at time are bit putting effort in Fletch to busy moaning and Gettys not getting rotated enough for me considering Hussein is not playing today. Btw Eddie has finally got bit between his teeth and showing ability now. Kid just needed a mean streak and self belief! Don't think it helps with the passport issue as having Glasgow Jr playing would add an dimension to our game instead of Fletch trying to pass to Cj or do it him self!

True, little or no threat from most of the squad, very happy when Kai shoots as % is so low, only Eddie really coming into his own. Fletch to Gettys works some of the time CJ scoring points but missing so many more. Feel a bit sorry for CJ, leaving a team on the way up (Nix ) and moving to a team on the way down.😉😉
