Played great team ball in the first half, went AWOL in Q3 but managed to hold on with excellent defence in Q4. Reasons to be cheerful alright. Only dark cloud was Cartwright clearly unfit to play on as the game wore on. Spencer subbed really well for him. Think someone else should put the ball in play from the sidelines though! He ought to receive the ball not inbound it. Johnson scoring 3s for fun and Anderson was a pit bull as a defender. All deserve credit for a 100% effort, gutsy win.

Beaten by the better team over 40 minutes but if Peel had sunk all 3 of his ft's in the final quarter to make it a 3 point game, I think we would have had the momentum to go on & win, but he didn't & we didn't. Too much went through Ovie early on, we HAVE to play as a team if we're going to win against teams like Riders. You guys started hitting everything you shot in that same time when Peel missed 2 of his free throws. Otherwise it wouldn't have even been close. You can't take all those great shots BUT complain about a couple of missed free throws at same time Pat. Plus we missed a couple of easy lay ups at the same time you missed a couple of free throws I seem to remember?? Couldn't believe it when Andy missed the open layup at a crucial time

Yes our inbounding in the third quarter was awful.

Watching now Riders impressive Never really doubted Rob would turn it around did we? We've got a proper team again. Lots of energy and options. We showed more intensity and desire than Lions I thought. We will at the very least be a hard team to beat from now on. I think between now and the end of the season we can only afford to lose 2 or 3 more league games. Beating Lions away and giving ourselves the head 2 head AND giving them a loss will be the key to winning this league now I think But the whole run in will be tough as there are lots of competitive teams now and most games are loseable. But there was a real spark about Riders last night. They looked like a team that really wants success.

Couldn't believe it when Andy missed the open layup at a crucial time I can because it changed the whole momentum of the game. We were flying at that point & Riders didn't have an answer. Hit all 3 & it's a 1 shot game, it just stopped us slightly & gave Riders a little more confidence, it was all that was needed, Riders felt they'd dodged a bullet, Lions felt a little deflated, such moments can win or lose games. Of course if Riders hadn't played so well 1st quarter, or if we'd shown any composure 1st quarter then it might not have mattered, that was where Riders did the real damage, we were lucky to be only 10 points down at that stage.

If Riders had shown more composure in the third and Lions hadnt played so well in the third etc we would have won by 20 points Games ebb and flow Best team won. Simple as that. Tbf you did say that in your first post Thompson missing the open lay up was worse than Peel missing 2 out of 3 free throws

Much better balanced Riders. The acquisition of Johnson and Spencer has made a huge difference, and both played very well last night. Anderson and Chuku also put in strong performances. Good to see. I remain convinced that we need another big man.
I know it's only one game and it's not fair to judge based on just one, but it looks to me that the addition of Soko has unbalanced Lions. They were more or less totally reliant on him in the first half, to the detriment of Peel and Robinson.

And Soko was 5 from 17 field goals He's a great player but when Lions play so one dimensional he's more than stoppable as last night showed

Add a fit Mo Walker to last night and with Cartwright fully fit then we have more than enough IMO No other team in BBL could get close to beating Lions missing their best forward and with their point guard playing low minutes half fit Let's be honest

Yes, he helped us win but he isn't a patch on Gettys or Amir Williams for example. Wright was amazing at times. His ability to shoot threes but, more importantly, create something from nothing with fantastic drives to the basket are a key reason we won. Sometimes it doesn't come off and he turns over the ball but that's also true of Cartwright and I would like both to return next season if possible. Sport's about entertainment as well as winning and they deliver in spades.

It looked to me last night as if Vince was beaten tactically by Rob in terms of who he put on court and tactics. They were subbing like a revolving door on speed and he didn't rely on his best players to produce. Peel and Robinson have been the mainstays of Lions for two seasons but they were often benched in favour of trying something else when a little faith may have paid benefits imo. Why so much went through Soko was puzzling because, as good as he is, it was one on one stuff much of the time yet we all know basketball is a team game as Riders showed. Beating them at their court will be tougher so we need everyone fit to manage that.
Whatever way you cut it we led from start to finish and I never expected that. It was a job well done.

With Mo Walker missing and Cartwright injured We will only improve as we always do as the season progresses If we lost last night I would have written us off for the league As it is I am confident now we can win the league or at least come very very close It's a young hungry squad of players With great desire and a coach who won't let them relax The future is looking bright for Riders

How do eagles do against a full strength Lions in that scenario? (We both know the answer!) Eagles would struggle to beat Lions when eagles were full strength - let alone with 2 key players out or injured

That's why DN-H was hired. Would he have been recruited without Mo's season ending injury? I doubt that very much. Agree completely about Cartwright of course. People's predictions about starting the season with a weaker squad and then using the cup comps to strengthen as and when necessary seem to have been correct, looking round the league. With the exception of Giants of course.
