I'm fairly new to BBL so I'm not clear on how things normally work with fixtures but I noticed that London Lions have "unavoidably" rescheduled some matches. Any reason why they have changed them? It's quite frustrating for me as I currently only go to the Saturday/Sunday matches and they've moved two matches to midweek. I'm getting back into basketball but I'm not committed enough right now to travel out to the Copper Box midweek but I'm more than happy to go at the weekend. I make that now only 5/11 home league matches on a Saturday/Sunday. I've only been to one midweek match before (BBL Cup) but how do the attendances compare to the weekend matches?
It leaves only two home weekend matches for the rest of the season so I'm likely to only go to both of them now (apart from any playoff matches). Honestly, I'd have gone to almost all 11 matches if they were on Sat/Sun but now I'll end up only going to about 4 or 5 of them.
I don't mean to be negative as I've really enjoyed going to basketball again for the first time in many years but travelling for 1 hour 30 mins+ (takes me 45 mins+ to reach venue) on a Wednesday night is off-putting for people getting into the sport.

Welcome to whatsbev! You can watch all their games on YouTube, so even if you cant make it to them live you'll be able to catch all games home and away completely free regardless which should help keep you interested.
Just out of curiosity where did you see about this site being after getting back into bbl basketball?

Don’t apologise for being negative, rearranging these fixtures is annoying. Like you getting to the Copper Box isn’t easy for me - 90 minutes each way so a 3 hour round trip each game, so Wednesday games are impossible for me. Luckily the only one of these 3 rearranged games I’ve already purchased tickets for is the Riders game, moved from Sat 21st to Sun 1st, which is going to require me to change some plans but at least I can still attend. My guess is the Copper Box can get make money from elsewhere for weekend bookings, so when a better offer comes along they have some kind of agreement that they can cancel the Lions scheduled bookings.

I've done that a couple of times before and it's a good way to keep watching without being there. In terms of finding the site, just a simple Google search for "BBL forum". Wanted to read some views on the league when I started going to games again.

Well, that certainly makes my journey to games feel short. That's some commitment travelling through for 90 minutes each way. I'd do it for football if I was close enough (support Hearts) but not yet for basketball. Interesting to read about why they might move games, thanks.

Could they be avoiding clashes with Ovie Soko work engagements?

Could they be avoiding clashes with Ovie Soko work engagements? It’s possible, but I think it’s much more likely venue issues.

A quick look at Copper Box website shows one games date is now booked for Call Of Duty e sports and one is booked by a London Netball team playing a league game. Worrying that ladies netball gets precedence over mens basketball.

Worrying that ladies netball gets precedence over mens basketball. Why? From what I’ve see netball gets bigger crowds than basketball, so it getting precedence is (unfortunately) understandable. Having said that, I think there are a less netball fixtures in the season. Does the Netball Fast5 also get a bigger attendance than the Basketball All-Stars Championship? What is worrying though is that the Copper Box promote the netball fixtures on their website, but not the basketball ones.

SSP is sold out for the Storm every game - usually weeks ahead. I wish it was the same for the Scorchers !

The success of the English Roses netball team has been marketed really well. All the teams that play in that super league have large crowds and plenty of media interest aimed at the female audience. Basketball doesn't either as individual clubs or the whole BBL network. Even in a relatively small place like Ellesmere Port new people come for the first time and say we didn't know this was here, that is despite an excellent media team putting a lot on social media.

Better wants them out and certainly ain’t gonna promote them

Ita nuts that an arena doesnt do the same Not only that if I were an organisation paying to use an arena I would expect part of what I get back is promotion on their website Assuming I'm fulfilling my obligations to them I would expect their support for my organisation in return Which isn't unreasonable. But if the venue is determined to piss you off because they'd like you to walk away from a deal they don't want to honour, what do you do? I think it's fairly clear that whoever runs the Box would be happy to see Lions either pull out or - at least - play there less. If it's still the same people running the Box and Palace, I wonder if they may facilitate a return to the latter for Lions.

If it's a broken relationship no point carrying on there

I don't think it's ever been an overly harmonious relationship. It's leisure centre staff with that mentality running an Olympic venue. I think they'd be more than happy if people just used the gym & used the hall for badminton, proper events are just a nuisance. They can't even manage to run a cafe, it shut at least 2 years ago! They ensured it was shut before any basketball game, I presume because the possibility of having to serve multiple people was just too much like hard work.
Lions have had to work very hard just to get them to open enough food/ drink outlets for the spectators(the queues even now can be 30 minutes long!). Up until last season, the staff did their best to empty the arena within 10 minutes, they did their best to not make the fans remotely valued, just a nuisance.
When you go to Riders & see how a centre can be run, it's almost heartbreaking how useless the Copper Box is. I know Riders have control over the venue & game nights but a pro-active leisure centre management should be able to provide a similar level of experience.

EPSV have a good relationship with the Nix, some staff are working on game nights in their uniform, the same people are dressed in volunteer shirts when it's their night off,

Appears very similar to the relationship that the sharks had with the EIS with it been an international venue and all that. Sharks were kicked out at the drop of a hat; netball, snooker, and other events took preference.
One of if not the main reason we've moved back to Ponds Forge. However that too is a Sheffield International Venue (SIV) and has come along with it's own issues - no home games over the Christmas period.
Not sure costing or contracts are the same as the lions and the copper box but Sheffield city council have been reluctant to support us in our new build but would rather put their money into the EIS so it appears to me.

I believe the Lions/Copper Box contract runs until the end of the 2022/2023 season (or maybe just until the end of 2022), at which point I’m expecting GLL (Better) to ensure it’s not extended. And, as you’ve alluded to, I think they’re looking for any opportunity to terminate the contract earlier. I only hope they can see how profitable Lions playing at Crystal Palace NSC could be and not decide to never do business with them again. Because although Crystal Palace NSC isn’t a great venue I can’t really think of a better one within London right now?
