Suggestions surfacing from social media he has left the country and possibly the club.

That’ll certainly make Eagles underdogs

Timing is everything. They'd better hope Gettys is fit.

Timing is everything. They'd better hope Gettys is fit. Family and health are most important right now. The guys have left with the support of the club. Personally I believe all games should be cancelled atm. Health and well being so much more important than anything.

Heres one for you, and pin your lugholes back for this....
How many teams in the league would agree to releasing three massively important players on the eve of a cup final due to the player's welfare?
Rob Paternostro wouldnt hear of it. Ever. Class move by the Eagles even if it is to their detriment.

Only Morsell will be missed. Schlitzer simply not good enough for the bench and Hussein not good enough to start. Hussein's inconsistancy was particularly infuriating. I noticed that the statement said they had been released and it seems to be by mutual consent. Class move maybe but three wages saved in an increasingly meaningless season (for Eagles, to be clear) could be the difference for club survival. I can see other clubs following suit if they can but wonder what the contract situation will be when the Government bans all? I think this season is done.

USA government just extended the travel ban to UK and Ireland. US citizens can still travel but only to selected airports where they will be tested on arrival. I'm sure most of BBL's US imports will be concerned and wanting to go home sooner rather than later. Can't blame them at all.

The club can't then either make them stay in the UK against their will? And certainly can't make them play another game of basketball? And I'm not saying this against Eagles by the way. But I'm saying it in fairness to Rob. If three of his players approached him and said they wanted to go home without knowing the conversations the. you have idea what he would say to them. And even if he wanted them to stay one extra day if they've decided they are going home theres nothing he could do about it. He's got a family himself and he knows family comes first. Now if you know how the conversation went when those three players voiced their concerns to the club then fair enough. But even then that's an unfair dig on Rob. if you don't know the conversation then you are just speculating. It's surprising they've gone the day before a final. But if they've made their minds up they are going home that's that I guess. Do you know more Bigz? if so fair enough mate. But still unnecessary dig at Rob I think.

With self isolation this game may still not go ahead aAnd league probably stops next week anyway

That's personal on someone and its against their character as a person rather than a dig about sport. And I'm saying it's unfair. Fair enough if it's class act by Eagles then. But not fair enough on Rob regardless. As he's not been put in that position or you to judge him. On top of that he's the coach of the basketball. He wouldn't even be the decision maker on stuff like this as you know.

Well I'm not even going to be able to ridicule Eagles if they lose tomorrow (assuming the game goes ahead) that would be unfair
Ps why hasn't gettys been sent home with them?

Can only assume he's either happy to take the risk with the virus for the sake of at least tomnorow, doesn't mind being stuck in Newcastle a while if international flights are cancelled or as he's on way more money than the other 3 he doesn't want to rip up his contract.

I don’t know any of the ins and outs of this, but hats off to the Eagles for doing the right thing even if it might save them a few quid if the season gets canned shortly.
Good luck to all three players, by the way. Whether I rate them or not, there are more important things than even basketball.
One query. I fully get that these guys don’t want to get marooned miles from home and family. But if you were a young skint guy without healthcare, wouldn’t you prefer to get Covid-19 in Newcastle with Our NHS rather than catching it back home in Trumpland?

Until they're out of contract and homeless And stranded I've got parents on holiday in Cyprus (that has just closed down) that I'm having to help fly back home tomorrow (they were supposed to be there for 3 weeks!) And I've got a daughter working a ski season in France (which has just closed down) ive got to get home asap now as well (France has just closed all non essential businesses - only food shops, pharmacies and petrol stations can stay open). All other shops, bars, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, nightclubs etc have to shutdown from midnight. That's probably coming our way in a few weeks as well. When the timing is right. Won't even be able to buy fish and chips as this rate! Time to buy some board games!
