Yep Rocks should have the Title - if they are top of the league at the end of the season - (if its cut short) then they have won the title fair and square Just because they played their games sooner than other teams have?
Not gunna take games-in-hand into play?
Whether we award the Championship to Glasgow Rocks or void the season, Rocks are currently top of the table – and not just because they’ve played more games. Rocks have played 15 games and have 24 points. Even if teams who have played less games won every game until they’ve also played 15 games none of them would have as many as 24 points.

LT ... Thats a very good point. I suppose if you say the league was changed from 20 games to 15 games this season, then Rocks have effectively won it. ...or is my logic skewed (a bit like my mind )

Exactly. If we want a winner (and maybe we don’t) then we have to consider it a 15 game season and Rocks have won that. Of course it’s not quite that simple, not everyone has played the same teams, we weren’t planning on it being a 15 game season etc. But if we want a winner that’s how we’re going to have to do it.

Judging by the poll at the top of the page “we” don’t want a winner, so there should be no champions. It is unfair to award a title to a team which has, arguably, the most difficult run in of all on paper.

This season was already a mess with the Royals fiasco - write it off and start again. Even the trophies that have been won were done so in unusual/controversial circumstances with quarter final byes etc. Awarding the league to the Rocks at this point would be farcial........but then this is the BBL we're talking about.

I did think that with the Rocks final run in of games we could probably only afford to lose 1 of these games. The first hurdle was obviously the away weekend, and although a fabulous couple of days for us, the prospect of still having to face London, Sharks, Riders and Newcastle stopped me having any form of optimism.
Such a difficult one to call and I appreciate everyones views on it and understand that those saying the Rocks shouldn't be awarded the title does not mean they are taking away from the excellent league performance they have shown us so far.
Nice to have a big debate like this. It will be interesting to see what the final outcome is. If this year is still not our year then I hope Lavandier is around for seasons to come to lead us to an eventual trophy.

Rumour has it the league will not be cancelling the season. Don't know if that means they will "postpone" it, however that would work.
WBBL will be cancelled likely.

If so, I think that is reckless and irresponsible. Even if everything is played behind closed doors.

In what way is it reckless?

Just heard on the TV news about the UK fly ban.
If players can't leave the country, some/most may well choose to stay and play (to earn their keep).
If that is the case, Teams may well choose to play out the season behind closed doors.
Some clubs (like Eagles) may well call it quits, given our roster is pretty much decimated.
The financial implications for some BBL clubs is going to be terrifying IMO.
Scary times for BBall in the UK.

Why would teams play on behind closed doors? All the costs with none of the income?!

I know its not ideal, but it decreases the spread of infection.
We can all watch it on youtube but it still is a financial nightmare for clubs.

Yeah but if they'd lost one game then suddenly are level. So the luck of the draw on the fixture list decides the title? Literally one game in it isn't nearly enough to give a clear/outright title out with so long still to go.
So having the best record at the time the league stops counts for nothing? Everything else is ifs and buts. So if one game into the football Premier League season the season is aborted and cancelled and on day one Watford win their game 7-0 and nobody else wins by such a margin, are they worthy winners? They can't be overtaken...

Glad to see the Rocks agree I think the BBL should stop the pretence that the league is going to continue at some point. Instead of postponing the inevitable, they should either: 1. End the league, and make a decision on whether they will declare a winner or not. 2. Continue the games as scheduled, with or without the attendance of fans. Rocks have a full squad, and seem ready to play. Postponement is an unwelcome half-way house which just continues the uncertainty.

I'd rather go with Option 1, it's unfair to continue the league with teams losing players.
I agree that postponement is unwelcome and it really doesn't solve anything, they are just digging their heels in.

In contrast they’ve confirmed the WBBL season is over, and are currently finalising the details as to what cancellation means in terms of results based on the current standings.

The statement i expected. Unfortunately i do not support the rocks statement. The league has not been complete. Our assumption that weve played 75% is flawed when no other team has played 15 games. We arguably have one of the hardest run ins with sharks eagles lions and riders (throw in giants too) even if we won 60% of those it would still make it close.
Im not suprised due to the fact ive read alot of rocks statement under duncan. On court has been a major improvement this season off court still has there issues but lets be honest we've never had so many statements until duncan bought over the team. Didnt know we were a football club!

This is a bit desperate. While I feel sorry for Rocks, this season wasn't close to being finished. Getting an order who understands basic maths might be a move forward.
