Article in hoopsfix about this. The aim to have a professional basketball team playing out of Belle Vue. Not looking to take over the giants.
Anyone got any idea whose involved?
Mentions there being 5 dedicated basketball facilities in the city. Berle Vue, Amaechi Centre I’m guessing the ball halls in Bury and Stockport. Don’t know the fifth one.
I’m guessing giants simply couldn’t afford to play at Belle Vue. The city struggles to support one professional club so can’t see another being created.
The city not doing too bad at junior level with magic sitting top of all 3 premier divisions of the male section. All teams top in the under 12 section.
Mystics top or 2nd in 14 and 16 prem and mid table in 18s prem
Some decent positions for giants too who tend to lose their better players to magic.
Men equal 4th in div 2 with a lot of under 18 players. Apart from the pro team in the bbl Manchester basketball seems pretty healthy to me.
I understand the objective re a professional club playing out of Belle Vue. Not sure how that’s likely to happen unless any sugar daddies want to offload a load of money?

Giants bee simple and magic red colours ? Looks like a merger to me.
Giants actually prove they can sustain a franchise if you ask me, they just need someone to run it, maybe it's the new guy? Maybe he bought it to merge them, who knows

Personally can’t see it or the benefit. Magic have a great venue so don’t need Belle Vue and seem to have taken the decision to use the men’s team as development for their youngsters. its not as though there are hundreds of magic fans who would then watch an amalgamated Manchester team in the bbl and make them a powerhouse in that league. From the outside the 2 clubs seem to compliment each other nicely magic as the dominant junior club and giants in the bbl. From a junior perspective the 2 clubs are in opposite sides of the city thus supplying coaching for young kids who might not travel at a young age across the city. Giants have produced some excellent kids who tend to join magic once proven. A bummer for the giants coaches but it does produce an elite Manchester team. Not sure what benefit there would be from an amalgamation I think Sam disagrees it would interesting to get his perspective

I do hope this doesn't lead to a third Manchester club because that's just about the last thing the city needs. I think one unified club would be great for the city but while Joe is the man at Magic there seems to be no interest in pro basketball, while Giants are completely out of their depth. I see no solution.
