But they aren't doing those things!! Tube is over 15% full now. Shops have WAY more than 1or 2 people in them. Buses will have more than 12% capacity. Schools are difficult but it won't matter what you do in a classroom, a group of 11 10 year olds will not social distance. Life will be tough without a doubt for some considerable time & we'll have to get used to a new 'normal'.
However your doom & gloom views will also be somewhere off the charts, I'm beginning to think you want everyone simply to give up on everything. The negativity you're bringing is completely unhealthy & really needs to stop not only for other people's well being but more importantly for your own.
Even if you're right and the whole of the country is doomed, we really don't need to be reading about it from 20 slightly differing posts every day.

Even if you're right and the whole of the country is doomed, we really don't need to be reading about it from 20 slightly differing posts every day. I plan ahead for my businesses by checking the exit strategies and what is working around the world each day on the internet I'm looking for positives but only finding negatives when I do. Each morning I hope there's been some new vaccine or new miracle cure. Each morning when I Google exit strategy the news isn't positive I'm planning what I do on worst case scenario and anything else is a bonus Pat the fact is for contact sport there's barely any positive news to pass on. Pro clubs WANT to continue for sure by and large. I more than most would want contact sport back asap as it impacts my son badly if it doesn't happen. But the fact is there's no positive news to report in that respect. I could come on here and pretend there was I guess. I get where you are coming from re doom and gloom. I haven't told my son what I've been reading etc as it would just upset him. But this is a forum used by adults by and large I suggest and this is a thread that discusses the return of basketball and sport. The outlook isn't good for contact sport. If anything positive happens anywhere around the world with contact sport I would be the first to post it I wager as I research. Similarly if there's a likely vaccine or cure anywhere the same. If it's there and making news somewhere I will spot it. Right now the best I've read is one of the cures being trialled can reduce length of time in hospital for patients who recover from 14 days to 11 days. Which doesn't sound that great but clearly it's a start. And some countries are working on 1.5 metre social distancing rather than 2 metres. On of the most positive stories is a state in Australia that wants to remove all restrictions by June. However, they are able to aim for that as they have had no new cases for 3 weeks and state borders are closed so no new cases can come in theoretically. They've lifted lots of restrictions already. But only allowing solo sport even with no cases for 3 weeks. And everything else people do 1.5m apart. Other states in Australia still trying to contain the virus.

Alternatively, you could resist the temptation to reply to every singe person who doesn't agree with a lengthy post giving us more "information" that the sky is falling. As discussed in our PM exchange following your rather tragic death threat to me (I still dread the ring of the doorbell), you need to pummel anyone who disagrees with you into submission is clearly some form of mental illness.
This is a basketball forum, not your blog. Start "Little Richard's End of the World blog" and see if it works as therapy.

I recognise it. But I'm polite and respectful of others. Chalk and cheese in that respect. I never make it personal with a poster unless as in this case the poster makes it personal with me. If social distancing restrictions need to remain for any length of time I suspect there'll be a push for 3v3.
Events can be hosted at single venues, including outdoors over the summer. Fewer referees, table officials and coaches are needed. Teams can travel in one car etc. It makes sense for a whole host of reasons. The negative is that it's not "proper" basketball. But "proper" basketball may be difficult for many for a while if some of the less committed / more risk averse players drop off the radar until things are more normal.
It's likely more for grass roots but I wonder if the BBL might think of resuming with one or more one off event(s) over the summer or pre-season. It would allow them have a dry run at hosting games with social distancing restrictions in place (for example needing to leave every other seat unoccupied). Teams can use Brits or foreign players that live here rather than needing to import players. And it may even make them some money.

While I'm desperate enough for basketball that I'd welcome 3-on-3, I can't see there's enough of a difference that it could happen while proper games are banned.
Once the schools are open (November 2025 according to the doom merchant and then only on alternate Thursdays for kids whose names begin with D, K & Y) I can't see why limited non-contact practice can't resume. Everyone would need their own ball, obviously.

3 on 3 please don't say that, I couldn't see the point in that really other than a nice thing to put on at HT. I heard Tuesdays were going to be height restricted for kids under 5ft to help with the distancing.

Trying to look for solutions
I've seen a few supermarket staff wearing clear full face clear visors lately
Something like that made for sport and then some protocol for washing hands/ sanitizing clothing etc before removing the masks at the end of sport might work?
That should remove most of the risks. Infected hands touching the mouth, nose or eyes is the main problem.
Maybe the reason we aren't al talking more about masks to reduce social distancing is they aren't yet available in more quantity and are needed for frontline workers etc rather than sport
I'm sure in time Nike etc could make some and make them work for sport
I imagine there are companies already looking at the opportunities

UK government approves £16m loans to 'protect' rugby league Rugby league in England will receive £16m in government loans to help it recover from the impact of the pandemic.
Rugby Football League (RFL) chief executive Ralph Rimmer asked for assistance after the suspension of the game on 16 March.
Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said the government had intervened "to protect an entire sport". Rugby league is seen as a special case because of its social value in mainly northern communities.
"Rugby league is not a wealthy sport. But it is rich in the things that matter most - outstanding sporting and life chances in often disadvantaged communities," said Mr Rimmer.
Its encouraging that Rugby League has got support. It's a loan though that needs paying back. I'm sure British Basketball clubs would be hoping for some kind of grant rather than loan

One measure I can see happening is all junior games and training having to be held "behind closed doors" with no parents/spectators allowed.
I think a lot of parents will react badly to this, but realistically most teams aren't going to have the manpower (or want the responsibity) to enforce social distancing of spectators.
We can't close the whole country down for the next year or two, but we also can't go back to normal for the time being, so IMO these are the sorts of practical measures we should be looking at.

So ignoring Belarus (who have seemingly given zero ****s about all this from the start) it looks like Korea will be the first country to resume team sports. The Korean baseball league (which appears to be of a pretty good standard) plans to begin it's 2020 season on Tuesday with K League football kicking off next Friday. Unlike some of the resumption plans that have been touted about for various other leagues, these look pretty well rubber-stamped. Empty stadiums initially, as you'd expect, though it sounds like there is some hope this could change as the seasons progress. Other measures that will be put in place are mentioned in the articles I've linked. Nothing particularly surprising or outside the box really. Not entirely sure how enforceable some of it is either. Probably up to the players more than anything to behave responsibly and be generally switched on about what they can/can't do, on and off the pitch. Ordinarily I wouldn't give a crap about K League football and baseball bores the snot out of me but I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this. Hope it's a success. Decision on the Bundesliga season has been delayed a week. A resumption of play definitely feels less than 'inevitable' now. Lesser leagues in various places (Denmark, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland) have also announced plans to return in May/June and I've not seen too much cold water poured on this yet. As with the Korean stuff, I realise these are leagues most people would ordinarily not care about. But I think any remotely noteworthy sports league finding a way to get going again would be a boost for everyone at the moment. If they are successful they'll certainly garner far more attention now than they would do normally. Multiple countries have apparently expressed an interest in broadcasting K League football and it sounds like there's a pretty good chance ESPN will broadcast Korean baseball in the US. Some significant exposure available for leagues that don't normally get it, if they can make things work.

I had similar thoughts while watching the news story explaining a track and trace phase. It only tracks 100% of the people who have a smart phone with Bluetooth on and the app downloaded. So no guarantee everyone in that shop with you is traceable. However a junior training session - I have a coaching session attendance list for the squad I coach. When sport returns, I have that admin task to do anyway at each session. Game day - no problem, there is a scoresheet with all player names, floor and table official names and coaches. So worst case someone goes ill, we know who needs to be informed. As you mention just need to be spectator free environment. There are solutions to challenges if you want to seek them out - the first thing though is 'the science' needs to tell us its ok for a games hall of people under a certain age limit to be involved as the risk factor is low enough to let it happen.

As far as I understand it if one player at a match or training session was to get symptoms then all of the players plus anyone else in attendance at that session would need to be traced plus anybody those people have interacted with. At which stage all of those people would have to self isolate for 14 days. And I assume that means all of their families would have to self isolate alongside them. Which is why I doubt team sport or team training will be allowed for a fair while As the numbers it the brings into track and trace and self isolating are so big? Hope that makes sense?

Yep, pretty soon there are a lot of people self isolating because one person has shown symptoms. And then those people can't work and the economy suffers so you can see why the government might not be keen. Which is why I think basketball may push for some kind of 3v3 in the short term and argue that it's much less of a risk than 5v5 would be. Either that or clubs will be holding more camps and intra-club competitions to keep kids interested and an income coming in.
You can see why finding an accurate test that gives quick results is so important. Even then you're relying on people to actually declare when they have symptoms. A shopkeeper in my area with the virus died last week.. by all accounts they'd been showing symptoms for days but were telling customers it was just a cold. Whether it was just denial or they couldn't afford not to work, how many others would do the same thing? And how many teenagers would keep quiet for fear of being kept from seeing their mates or missing out on a big game?

There won't be a BBL 3x3 to replace regular BBL.

I agree, but I do think it's going to feature more heavily in grass roots basketball for as long as there are restrictions of some kind.

It's not even about declaring symptoms The disease is believed to be at its most infectious when people first catch it and before they would even have symptoms to even know about or report

www.gov.je/Health/Coronavirus/SafeExitFramework/Pages/ExitFramework.aspxThis is the detailed exit strategy published by Jersey yesterday It has 4 stages Whatever your own situation in life it's worth reading the above link to get an idea of what will happen in upcoming months The above strategy mirrors whats happening in other places and no doubt the UK exit strategy when published will be very similar to this. All the exit strategies seem to be following the same lines The 4 stages are designed so that they can be moved back a stage as well as forward a stage depending on the number of new cases at any time

The Premier League are also preparing for the possibility of playing the 2020-21 season without fans.
That's from the BBC website today. Not just this season but next season no spectators
