Surprised this hasn’t been brought up yet, but Hoopsfix and Russ Levenston confirmed next season will see the increase of imports to 4. The 5 non Brit rule remains the same. www.hoopsfix.com/2020/05/bbl-allow-4-work-permitted-players-from-2020-21-season/The aim is to make teams more competitive in Europe. I’m on the fence though. Of course it’ll improve the standard of the league, but at the expense of British player’s playing time.

Was brought up several months ago when Makem Taken announced it. I would be more concerned that bbl clubs dont produce British players rather than them giving them minutes in the bbl. So few are produced in the bbl

That's why so many of our players go abroad like Archibald, Freeland, Van Oostrum. Although in Van Oostrum's case he actually played in the BBL both for Sheffield & Leeds.

Archibald was stateside for a long time, Freeland and van oos both took apprenticeships very young to play youth basketball. Until bbl clubs actually develop players from a youth standpoint with a clear pathway then itll keep happening. BBL wants all the glory with non of the work

An American with an EU passport and an American without one is still an American. Can't really see it making any difference.
Brits go abroad for the money and to play at a higher level, nothing to do with imports in the BBL. If anything 1 more American should cut costs and raise standards.

Limiting the number of non-British players in the BBL is quite the quandary for me. It's the leagues greatest policy (growing British talent) and the leagues worse policy (limiting the standard of play in comparison to other leagues) at the same time.

Anyone else listened to the whole interview with Russell?.........fascinating stuff even though the sound quality is a bit dodgy.

Great interview with Russell, thoroughly enjoyed that. I have a lot of time for Russell and Riders are clearly the best run BBL club other than Newcastle. However, we are in a new environment and a few well run clubs cannot carry the league. Competing in Europe will become a distant thought soon as there is even less money to "experiment" than when the Riders made their attempt a few years back having won 1 game and didn't even qualify for the BCL. So nice idea about 4 yanks but unless all clubs have better finances, we should not worry about the next experiment. We should just pray that we make it out of this pandemic without collapsing.
