Random question, but does anyone support a club that's not their local club? I don't mean if you or the club have moved since you first started supporting them but does the bbl have any fans that support newcastle but have always lived in sheffield or die hard riders fans but live in Surrey?

That’s funny actually, it’s so common in football but I dont think I know anyone within basketball.
Not that I’m one to talk, living just slightly south of Old Trafford in Birmingham. I could never bring myself to supporting another BBL franchise that wasn’t from Brum. I tried Worcester once. Just wasn’t the same

No but I’m the worst NBA glory hunter. I’ve changed teams so many times I can’t actually remember whose bandwagon I’m actually on :-)

In terms of BBL, no, I support the Rocks
As for other sports, I live in Motherwell but support Hamilton, grew up there but wasn't into Football at the time and followed Rangers when first starting out. Got sectarian abuse and felt it wasn't worth it so stopped, didn't have an affinity with Hamilton anymore after moving to New Stevenston (village in Motherwell) so supported Gretna when they were brought into the Scottish game, I watched them in Europe and a full season at Fir Park (Home of Motherwell, plus 1 home game in Livingston), Gretna went bust when I was on a college trip to Madrid.
Never followed the phoenix club, many months later I got my first job, happened to be located in Hamilton so after Gretna folded I started to support Hamilton, had a season ticket but had to give it up due to my mum being unwell with her cancer diagnosis, plus the prices went up. Haven't been at a Hamilton game for a while.

I'm not sure this counts but here goes. I live in Leamington Spa in Warwickshire. Coventry is my nearest big place; Birmingham second. Both BBL deserts, as you know. My son and I saw our first BBL games at Worcester about ten years ago but found it sterile and actually unwelcoming. So we went to Riders instead, found it odd (the John Sandford) but completely welcoming - and we never looked back. The two are about equi-distant for us.
Football. I grew up in Birmingham and followed my father and his father into being a Villa supporter. Fanatical when I was young but lost the thread when I went away to university and never really picked it up again. I married a Hereford girl and began to go to see Hereford United. Became a season ticket holder and followed them for years, even though a home game is a 170 mile round trip. I just can't do the travel any more and god knows what will happen to clubs like that now.

You can't be a glory hunter or supporter in the BBL
Nobody you spoke to would have a clue if the team you supported was any good for you to get any glory from it?

I wonder if you'd have fallen in love with Riders if they were crap when you discovered them

I wonder if you'd have fallen in love with Riders if they were crap when you discovered them Interesting question Honest answer is I don't know. If they were Leeds level bad then maybe not It was excitement and the energy and the availability of players for the kids after the game that we liked We caught the tail end of a season at Loughborough. As a result of players going into my son's school I think and giving out tickets. Riders won nothing that season. And don't think they won anything the season after either. But of course they were very competitive If the games weren't exciting then regardless of who won we wouldn't have been hooked I would actually say when Riders were at their most successful the games became less exciting as we were winning with quite a bit to spare more often than not

I think that fair with the lack if local clubs, the tornadoes or crusaders aremt about anymore either

We also started following Riders when we caught the last few games of the 2002/03 season at Loughborough also as a result of the players going into our sons’ school. We’ve had season tickets ever since but in the early years we certainly couldn’t be called glory hunters. We were happy if we won a game never mind a trophy. There were games where they passed around a bucket for us to chip in to help pay the players wages and even a lock out one night because they couldn’t pay them.

I live in Sussex and support Bradford City (and still go up for games). That's the polar opposite of a glory hunter...

interesting question hersey.Riders were crap when I started supporting them back in 2000 but the atmosphere at John Stanford was brilliant and we kept on improving so have now been supporting them for 20 years and never looked back.Pity it has lost some of the atmosphere at the new arena.

I definitely call myself a Glory Supporter, To me Leicester Riders are a glorious club and I’ve been following them since 1984, back in the Glorious Granby Halls, I’ve been through the awful James twins as joint coaches, The pretty decent days of Robert Dixon, watched Dave (Buck) Harris try to coach a roster that was picked for him, who could forget reservoir Bob Donewald, stuck through Tim Darling’s 0-15 run, went to the ball with Billy Mimms and countless other coaches and now we have had to settle for massive success with Rob, so through thick or thin I will always support my Glory Glory Leicester Riders.

I worked out I saw 6 wins in 70 following Panthers and Knights (and that’s without Bullets’ last few miserable seasons)
Is there an opposite to a Glory Hunter?!
