Until we have a season start date that's realistic I'm paying no attention to all these rumours So many things to happen between now and then. I imagine right now Riders can't really make any firm offers to any players with so much uncertainty around If other clubs think they can then so be it

But if it's true that's a big blow. Worse than losing JA or RMT I think. He was improving all the time and he had a dramatic effect on the team with his skill and never-say-die attitude to winning.

If he got better by half the amount this summer that he did the previous summer you could call him an early mvp candidate.

I think that mrtall's boredom has got the better of him and he is mischief making.

Taken from Riders FB page
Ward-Hibbert leaves Riders Category: News Author: RidersMedia Date: 14th June, 2020 Riders Managing Director Russell Levenston has today confirmed that guard Josh Ward-Hibbert will not return next season.
Ward-Hibbert who still had a year to run on his contract, was contacted by another team while under contract with the Riders and he has decided to opt out of the second year.
Josh joined the programme initially with the Loughborough side before progressing to Rob Paternostro’s team in the 2016-17 season. Josh represented the Riders 91 times winning 7 trophies including two treble winning seasons.
“He’s a great talent and we have invested in him over the past four seasons to a point were we feel he is in a position to push for a GB spot. So naturally we’re disappointed that Josh has decided to leave us,” reflected Levenston.
“We thank him for his efforts whilst in a Riders shirt and wish him well for the future.”
In some more promising news for the Riders, Levenston also confirmed there will be some player announcements around the corner.
“We have several players already signed and we’ll be making those announcements over the coming weeks. We’re really pleased with the way the pieces are coming together and looking forward to seeing this exciting team back on court at the Morningside Arena. Watch this space!”

Although they've only posted it because of the rumour, I do like that the riders do 'exit articles' when a player leaves. It's a level of class that doesnt cost a thing

WTF! Worst news in a long time. Sad to see he's leaving and if he's gone to Lions that is salt in the wound. Wish him well because he was great to watch and produced some fantastic performances for Riders. More money? More court time? Both?

A 2 year contract with an opt out is, in effect, a one year contract.

A tad melodramatic that MRF given the utter ****storm 2020 has been thus far. I can definitely think of a few worse things to have happened recently than Josh Ward-Hibbert leaving Leicester Riders. Seems odd to me that any BBL club would have 'several players already signed'. I appreciate every sports league in the world is dealing with a degree of uncertainty at the moment but if I was even a half decent pro, I don't think I'd be rushing to sign with a British basketball team. We're barely a month removed from what would have been the conclusion of the 2019/20 season so this is early days even under normal circumstances.

You're right, of course, about being somewhat over the top but JWH was one of the most promising, exciting players in the BBL. Interesting that Russell said there was nothing they could do to stop him. Was the other club's offer SO much better than Leicester's or was it something else that motivated him to depart?

Its worth noting that clubs will have resigned several players by this stage normally. I hope josh does well. Was a suoer talented tennis player and glsd to see him making his moves in basketball. He does strike me as being a mini jamel anderson so far.

I’m amazed that anyone will resign for a bbl club at the moment. I remember Dave F saying gate money wasn’t the overriding source of income but unless a vaccine arrives or we get clear there won’t be many spectators in a venue on restart. I just do t see a restart being viable unless players get paid even less.

Well, good luck to him. If someone wants to offer him bigger money that is their problem, especially with future club income being so uncertain. I wish him luck. Did well for Riders.
Added: and a business cannot furlough new joiners, so on the assumption that he has a start date; will be paid from that start date; and the club will not be playing, it's a financial hit from day 1.

At a time when other clubs can't commit However, what's to stop having a clause in the contract that stops the new club having to pay anything until a new season starts? Start and end dates for any sports contracts will all need to be much more flexible than in the past

CB i hope your making that up... if he has the cash for that then he seriously has his priorities wrong. I'd seriously consider not going to a rocks game in the future under his ownership. Just wish the embarrassing show he has produced will roll out of town soon.

Duncan Disorderly was the nickname of Duncan Ferguson when he was at Rangers. I never made up that name. I did make up that he was suing the BBL. I wish he would though. Just for the entertainment value.
