Well... yeah, everyone said he was taking a step down when he joined them. It's hardly a revelation.
I guess saying that though sounds better than "I joined London because I could make money from Celebrity Bake-Off and club night appearances".

No it's not, he clearly took a step down & clearly from the article didn't put into it as much as he could of, which was also clear whilst he was playing. I'd call that unprofessional & disrespectful but there we go, that short time experiment has finished & we all move on. Given how late he signed & how few games he played, to say he played a season with Lions is at best, stretching the truth. When it comes down to it, he played a little cameo which he didn't particularly enjoy so he didn't put the effort in.

To paraphrase:
"I was too good for the BBL. It wasn't challenging."

He came back to make money out of his off the court stuff at the expense of his on the court interests and it failed, this may sound harsh id rather someone half as talented that cares!!

To paraphrase: "I was too good for the BBL. It wasn't challenging." Yeah, that’s what he’s basically saying. Personally I think it was more a case of “I was too busy and not interested in playing to my full potential in the BBL as I was making a lot more money doing other stuff in London”. Interesting that he’s continuing his weekly Sky Sports role. Assuming that’ll be in the studio (which admittedly it currently isn’t) I guess he’ll be traveling back and forth between London and LeMans in France each week. A sign of what LeMans must be paying him. And a possible sign that no BBL team were interested in him (at least at the salary he was likely demanding).

He was very very cutting about the coaching the other day at LL. He said it was so bad it was like school PE with basic drills which we’re made up on the day. Bit harsh on Vince who is the highest qualified coach in the country I think though. So much he tried to stay away as much as he could and did most of his work away from the team with Gaz M

For the record Ovie was not that great either but for the UK, he was OK. Can’t see why he would leave if he thought the BBL was any good. That said LeMans ain’t necessarily top ball either. Australia, Japan would have better options if he could keep up. But hey, maybe the wife beater Liggins would be a better media personality and player for the Lions. Sure to impress families on a night out! I can hear it now, look at our star player from the NBA, and he’s really good at beating with the XBOX!

Re-reading Ovie’s comments, does anyone else think there’s some resentment there... I’m thinking maybe he wanted to stay at Lions (if only for the convenience with his Sky Sports and other gigs) but Lions weren’t willing to meet his salary demands?

Would you even want to keep him with an attitude like that?

No way is vince anywhere near the top qualified coach. If he is there sums up the reason gb basketball is regarded as it is.
On ovie. Proof is in the pudding. Totally ****s on the bbl. Didn't see him putting up over 25pts a game? Was he good for extra revenue? Amazing how players moan about the standard but don't really do much to make it better. Its apparently someone else's job.
Same goes when folk say why isn't their a players union. Nobody wants to be the one to do it.

Fair enough if that's how he feels, but why put it out there like that? Surely it would be better for the British game if he'd been respectful and kept his mouth shut. Seems like he's just trying to talk himself up and make excuses for not hanging 30 a night on all these terrible teams he had to endure playing against for 3 months. Poor guy.

Would you even want to keep him with an attitude like that? He put bums on seats? Which is no longer a reason to pay inflated wages if crowds are going to be limited for the foreseeable future

A player with his pedigree, motivated should’ve been lighting the BBL up. How it turned out is how most thought it would. He’s plenty good enough at less than 100% to be decent but BBL is not so bad he can coast his way to 30. I have a feeling he may struggle from here on in anyhow. Too much conflict in what he wants to do. Top professional sports people need to be fairly single minded to succeed.

Fair bit of debate about this on Twitter. There’s a few sticking up for him who mainly seem to be ex or current players, comparing him to the stick that Adam Thoseby got.

www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-8954105/amp/Love-Islands-Ovie-Soko-fears-seeing-wrong-girl-wreck-basketball-career.htmlJust putting this on here. Not because I think anyone here is interested in Ovie's love life, but because, like it or not, outside of this little British basketball bubble, he is the only famous British basketball player. So having him in the Daily Mail showbiz pages is great for British basketball. A lot of people only know British basketball exists because of Ovie. And it's pretty obvious he's playing in France because it's the professional league that is nearest to England. He is a massive asset to British basketball and I wish him well.
