As lockdown reduces I will be re-opening the lounge it'll be a sub board at the top of the page. It'll be the place to discuss anything apart from basketball as clearly there is a want to talk about different things on here. Once open I'll move the most recent "other" posts in there.

By all means open up The Lounge again but I don't think you should do so because a conversation veered towards the political. The conversation was very much centred around basketball and its return. It is impossible to discuss that fully without mentioning the overall situation and the politics being played out that will ultimately impact basketball.
What is more worrying to me is that on a basketball forum there is so little discussion about matters basketball that don't relate directly to the BBL......like the NBA restarted this weekend with barely a raised eyebrow on here? I like the BBL too but there is a big world of basketball out there folks.

I'm convinced there's people on here who don't know that basketball exists outside the BBL and would never watch a game again if their team went pop. There were people who wouldn't watch the new Leopards because we were in D1. One member of the initial group who were trying to save the club decided to support Chester (despite living in southend!) rather than us. I don't know how we change that.

My first experience of watching a basketball game didn't involve the Rocks, it was Glasgow Uni vs Edinburgh Kings. I thought it was a good competitive game and a perfect warmup for the game I was actually there to see. Idon't know much about the Scottish league.

The lack of NBA talk is probably because this is primarily used a bbl forum. Plus the nba doesn't get interesting until the playoffs really, far too many notjing games

Don't worry it's been in the pipeline long before any of this I get the feeling some would like the chance to talk about other things sports, politics etc. I'm of the mind if it works then that's great but if it doesn't then there's nothing lost as it's not really taking anything away from the main board. I think with then NBA it's prob more accessible on their own forums but it's been a sideline on here for years.

What Forums would they be? In relation to this being a BBL forum I’m a little confused......not sure Bev Turner was talking about games featuring Towers, Tigers and Leopards....... It’s a Basketball thing?

It’s a Basketball thing? I just assume there would be bigger more NBA orientated forums out there? That's an interesting point although it must have moved towards more of a BBL site pretty early on? I remember joining because of the BBL not the NBA.

Yeah. Jez started is a British NBA board but the BBL quickly became the main focus. I blame Sam. The women's board was really well used and pretty brutal at times

Possibly by being welcoming to new forum posters and not slam them down as basketball kits or ridicule them if they don’t share an extensive knowledge of every player in the NBL. (And I’m not just referring to you H on these points btw). Sometimes the game does itself no favours at all. That comes from the top - the NGB’s who as we all know are terrible for our sport in this country

(I think I meant to put basketball kits or something there - no idea why it came out as basketball kits) 😂

In your rush to have another rant at me (albeit a relatively minor one this time), you seem to have missed Connors' point. He was saying that the people on here have little interest outside the BBL bubble. Not just the NBA or NCAA (I do "get" that getting interested in a foreign league you'll never get to watch in the flesh may not appeal), there's little interest in the national teams - and there's life outside the senior men - or the NBL. Whether Basketball England, Scotland or Wales are good, bad or indifferent won't change that.

Yes my point was that this should a site where all matters relating to basketball can be discussed including politics if relevant. I think in the case in question it was relevant as there were Whatsbevvers from Scotland wondering when there NGB would be basketball and that inevitably lead to the debate about how the two governments different approaches have influenced the sport in each country.
As Hersey mentioned the women's section and Jnr sections used to be well read on here as well. I think social media has a lot to do with the reduction in activity on forums more than any other topic.
I prefer the more general debates on the state of the sport, the leagues, coaching education etc than the partisan my team is better than your team stuff that sometimes happens for the BBL.

Would we be allowed to discuss the massively-popular and disgracefully under-regarded sport of Rugby League in the(resurrected) Lounge?

connors and ko25 - you guys are killing me...
Am I in the Lounge already?
I feel like I might be?
If not, can I just stay out here instead, on my own virtual chair rather than on a virtual chair that might already have been used by another person (and thereby possibly soiled )?

Rugby League in Britain is just mainly northern English clubs with a couple French teams and a Canadian team who had to pull out.

Yes you are correct, but geography doesn't have to be the deciding factor in anyone's enjoyment of a sport. Basketball in Britain is just mainly small towns with one Scottish team and a Birmingham team who had to (repeatedly) pull out.

Also your love of Grange Hill........ Is that still on? Big Grange Hill fan when I was a kid. They got extras from my school but sadly I missed out. When it comes to Rugby League well I’m “just going to say no” 😉

So the lounge is now open and we can discuss Solly's obsession with Trisha Yates playing with odd shaped balls. Meanwhile I will own you all like Gripper owned Roland.

Fair dos if you guys want to "just say no" to RL - your loss.
Grange Hill was ahead of its time.
Every now and again some of the cast resurface to publicise various re-unions and, of course, it is quite disconcerting to see how much (like all of us) they have changed over the years.
Roland is now as proportionately portly as he was in his schooldays.
Not sure if it has been shown on any channel in the last 20-30 years. I would be intrigued to re-watch an episode or two but fear that it will now appear twee. Some things are best left in the past...
