Again, I'm not having a dig at Lions just for the sake of it, but when are they going to greatly step up the overall quality of the roster?
A good roster - Yes
A good enough roster to win even a single game in Europe - No

Even more so when you think Hampton wasn't fit at all, even in the games he played. Burnett was playing injured too. And even fully fit we didn't have a big man like Bristol or someone to control the game like Robinson. Having said that I think Lions are at least 2 quality bigs and a wing short as things stand. Think they will need at least a couple of those to be above what they've already announced, with the exception of Liggins, to stand any chance of getting out of the group stages in the Europe cup.

I think we found that you need good quality big men to compete in Europe even at the lower levels we were competing at

Unless Lions are intending to roster at least a dozen players the bench isn't shaping up to be anything particularly special. But the starting 5 is for sure looking stronger than the 2018/19 Riders... as it should do really given the game that was talked when this 777 takeover was first announced. After his success in the competitive Hungarian league last year I doubt we'd have seen Dirk Williams back in the BBL with any other team this season. They've got a relatively top drawer Brit who's still just about in his prime and has plenty of experience playing in better leagues. They've got a big guy who can provide a real presence defensively. And they've got a 32 year old who's made 177 NBA appearances. Riders very obviously had none of these things. Given that they currently only have one guy on the roster over 6'6" I think we can be pretty confident they've got a couple more bigs to come too. They're clearly in the market for a 4 who can shoot.
I suspect they won't ultimately have enough to make it through BCL qualification, though they've got an easier task than Riders had. And if that Riders team can get close to winning a few games in Europe Cup I definitely think this Lions team should be able to. Alex Larsson, Kiefer Douse, TrayVonn Wright and Rema Lascelles all played meaningful minutes for us at various stages. Larsson and Douse made multiple starts.
