According to BBL fix on Instagram Riders are in advanced talks with former USC Guard Jonah Matthews who averaged 13 points per game last season for the Trojans. Thoughts Riders faithful.....

One of the main players on a good side in one of the best conferences. Most 3 pointers made in USC history. Pac-12 defensive team of the year. All Pac-12 second team. Likes the big occasion. Game winnerI'd say if you take out the two big name signings at Lions this summer he looks like one of the more exciting players to come in to the league in recent years. A rundown of the calibre and type of player we might be getting mavsdraft.com/jonah-mathews-scouting-report/

"Mathews consistently hounded opponents both off-ball and on-ball defensively at USC, earning him a spot on the first team All-Defense in the PAC-12 this season. He consistently plays with high effort and might be one of the peskiest defenders to enter the draft since Jevon Carter in 2018. He has active hands, quick reaction time, a high motor, and excellent instincts to shut down drives and force defenders into bad plays."
That's a player that will fit well into any Rob Paternostro team
Lets hope these talks lead to a signing

If he signs he looks like a quality recruit. Assuming we’re all allowed to play Leicester look as strong as ever. Could even challenge for the title if London get caught in quarantine. Always assuming that Plymouth and Newcastle don’t produce some major rabbits out of the hat.

Not entirely sure what the credentials of this 'MavsDraft' guy are? He's responded to a tweet by Sportando about this signing saying he thinks Mathews can still make it to the NBA. Think he's probably a bit more bullish on the guy's career prospects than he should be but it'd be great if he's right. I do agree that this looks another pretty good signing. More combo guard than PG and clearly nothing like the passer that Kyron is. Assuming we don't intend to sign any more guards we're not going to have a playmaker of that type this year. But he ought to be a far more consistent scorer. And he's another guy with a reputation as an excellent defender.
The club said there'd be more than one announcement this week and I doubt we were intending for this guy to be one of them. I figure AT is quite likely? Not one that really gets my pulse racing but still an OK bench player and another big body who can stretch the floor. Anyone know what the score is with Joe Scott? I doubt I'm the only Rider fan hoping he isn't back but I think someone suggested he was on a two year course at Loughborough? Would really like to see that Euro slot used on a 3. AT and a decent SF would round out the roster quite nicely.
We do, in unusually quiet fashion, look to be assembling a pretty exciting group here. Will make it all the more disappointing if we aren't able to get going in a few months. Fingers crossed that isn't the case.

Is there a reason we seem to be getting better quality players this season
Are other European countries being slow in making offers or cancelling seasons?
Or making budget cuts?
Etc

No official word yet but the fact that Mathews and Riders are now mutual followers of one another on Twitter makes me think this is likely a done deal.
In other news, we've announced the re-signing of Raheem May-Thompson on a two year student deal. Decent depth add in my view. Was rather short changed last time round at Riders but has demonstrated himself to be a pretty useful player at this level since then. Had two very solid seasons at Cheshire. Given that Jamell is the only other natural 3 on the roster I figure he'll be in line for more minutes this time around though I guess it depends what else we have left to announce.

Isn't Jordan Spencer signing with you again this season?

Delighted Raheem has returned to Riders. Never thought he would somehow but he is a solid addition to our roster and I think he'll be a very good player for us again.

In and out, up and down...
RMT indeed looked the man at Chester, but when he found himself part of a more-balanced squad in Worcester his numbers dipped accordingly.
Certainly a decent signing but won't have a major impact - will probably average (at best) 15 mins, 6 pts, 3 rebs.

Good player to have around
