Lions saying to keep eyes on social tomorrow. Which position do we think they’re adding to?

They’re stacked in every position so unless it’s someone likely to be a bench player in the BBL then I think it’s gonna need to be someone really good to improve them

any chance the final 3 spots are part of the development with Barking Abbey - and filled from there?

They’re just waiting for King James to finish the NBA playoffs.

I'd say there's enough depth for the BBL campaign but we may still need a little better for Europe. So could this be a Europe only player, possibly American maybe on an initial short term deal.

any chance the final 3 spots are part of the development with Barking Abbey - and filled from there? That would depend on whether it's a trie merger - and the D1 side is similar to Loughborough in that it's a B team - or just an agreement. If it's just an agreement to work together the kids couldn't play for both, BA would get battered every week without 3 starters

I suspect there may be some salary cap "discussions" in the offing.

I'm sure there will be. I guess it depends on how they've structured the contracts. If the bulk of their pay is appearance money and win bonuses for European games it could be argued that it had nothing to do with the BBL. The non work permit players could have signed two contracts. As far as I know, the BBL salary cap has never been tested in court.

I can't imagine it's top of the list for discussions short term at least It's clear that the owners of Lions are operating on an entirely different level of budget to the rest. Good luck to them. If we have a league to compete with them in then I'm sure at some stage there will be a way of evening it all out or restricting what they can do.

So it's MBA!!! Cos we're a bit short of big men!! Can't wait for Bigz on this one! Well where to start with this. Quality signing, british, pure low post scoring. How many options do they have in the frontcourt now.... Mullens and MBA together really intrigues me. Outside/inside scoring Need to keep his ego in check but hes not the biggest fish in the pond by a distance, so theres guys who youd think will be able to keep him in check. This team is easily the best the BBL has seen on paper in the last 15 years.

Cant wait for the first 'Real' game they play in European competition. Lost badly to Bakken last week and I still think one or more teams in the BBL will push them. On saying that I hope they do well in Europe as it can only be good for the domestic league.

They'll find it a lot easier in the BBL than in Europe. If their players can gel quickly then they'll dominate most games.

I agree, but there is a VERY big IF in there. For starters there are SIX guys at 6’10 or mire in this squad which I freely confess haven’t seen before in any team anywhere. And some healthy egos for Vince to manage. should be fun!

Lions have done what no other BBL team has done in many years, playing in Europe. They have signed quality players to fill 4 & 5 spots. These positions win you games in Euro competition. You can't win big games (consistently) playing small ball.

Ahhhhhh, now I get it. Plymouth have been waiting for MBA to decide what he is doing. Not poor communication at all. So BIG announcements from Raiders THIS week.

So what was the best team 15 years ago. This is a genuine question.

I can't think of a stronger team (on paper, we'll see what they're like on wood) since I started the old Leopards in 1997. They've certainly got more depth than anything we've seen in decades. Maybe Kingston/Guildford were stronger, but I'll leave that to the old fogeys

Thanks H, old fogey here. I was thinking of G and K. Guildford had problems with the Cap and left an American out for Bbl games, but played 4 in Europe.😷

So what was the best team 15 years ago. This is a genuine question. Further back when Kingston & Towers (and to a lesser extent, Guildford) had prolonged spells in Europe, there were indeed some stacked rosters.
Kingston & Towers scooped up all the best British talent then got a few dual nationals, Euro guys and made sure they had quality Americans.
As others have said, genuine height & bulk is important. Towers had Martin Henlan and various other big lads (Marco Baldi anyone?) to take up space and quarterbacks to take control of matters.
Fair dos to Lions for all their signings but the difference in what they're doing vs Kingston/Towers is that they are throwing money at a greater number of players without a quality core at the centre of the team.
Justin Robinson can be the man to keep calm and (do his best to) take control but beyond that there seem to be no end of egos whose prime motivation to succeed will not be pride in the vest but will be a financial one, either in their current contract or in accumulating stats for their next job.
But there will not be enough minutes to match those egos...
