If teams are asking him to work out, I can see why he'd do it. That would at least give him a shot at the D League or 2021 summer league. If he's gone back to The States to sit by the phone, it seems a bit less worthwhile as he can be contracted to Riders and be in the draft. If he got picked, the NBA team would just buy out his contract, which isn't even chump change to them. It's limited to $750k, but I reckon he's under that. 
I suspect he has an agent, so someone believes in him, and generally they spend a fair amount of cash on fees and expenses.
