Of course Duncan doesn't see this role as worth paying for. Hoping that because Social Media is a sought-after media role, he can get it for free.
Sure, if this was offering basic support for somebody already in the role it'd make sense but this looks like they're asking an intern to take the lead on numerous areas and that's not cool for zero pay.

(Playing devils advocate) How much should they be paying for the role? And where will the income come from to pay for that role? (I imagine even without pay they will have applicants. And some of those applicants may even be good applicants) Many companies use internships. Even when the world is normal. Let alone now.

(Playing devils advocate) How much should they be paying for the role? More than £0. And where will the income come from to pay for that role? Not my problem. (I imagine even without pay they will have applicants. And some of those applicants may even be good applicants) Just because you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD. Many companies use internships. Even when the world is normal. Let alone now. Yes, but those generally have guidance, learning from people with experience. This role is literally just managing everything. Not interning. There's a difference.

The terrible thing its the most underpaid role in sport but in the new age its probably the most crucial. Any organisation/ sports team not realising that will fall behind. People in these roles aren't looking for entry level pay if you want someone good and not a wee person quite good on their phone it should be a minimum 25k job. The hours good content takes to create, edit and upload its a very valuable return on investment if you get it

More than ever now of course. The role could be a stepping stone to a proper social media job with a bigger club or with a bigger sport Joe Pinchin perfect example. He was paid by Riders but would be low pay. He did way way more than just social media. Social media was just one part of his job. Worked loads of hours and understood it was very low reward. Now he's at Chicago Bulls and no doubt the rewards are way higher It's not an ideal world we live in.

I've seen it in other sports with more money. Pro football clubs ask for data analyst interns to video games and provide all the stats for the players etc.
Great experience and good for the CV of a student.
I imagine Rocks will be looking for a Uni student to do this?
And maybe there will be some guidance as well.
TBH Uni students might be able to guide the club better than the club can guide the Uni students what to do!
And let's hope the intern(s) actually get something they can promote

To compare that to what Glasgow are offering isn't a fair comparison... and although low paid is still more than Glasgow's £0. It was at least enough to allow him to live, have a roof over his head and continue to improve his skills to push further. Sure I imagine it was likely nothing at first but social media was nothing back then too.

Similarly maybe a student can just put a few hours a week into the Rocks and it just be part of developing their own CV? I noticed Saint Pat on Twitter complaining yesterday that Lions don't actually have ANY social media going on at the moment. Not even a report on their Euro game! Or even the result! Their tweets stopped a few hours before the game and nothing since.

A team investing off the court will win on the court. Rocks using students or whatever will fail.

That's the problem with minority sports, how can you expect people to care about them when there is little social media output from the clubs. Ice hockey does ok, that is when they aren't spamming the same post multiple times.

Similarly maybe a student can just put a few hours a week into the Rocks and it just be part of developing their own CV? They're not just asking for "a few hours a week" though. They're asking for 2-3 days a week. Which as any media job goes, ends up turning into 24-hour on-call.

It's a whole crock of ****. If Duncan Disorderly wants someone to work from free then he should say that instead of hiding behind the fact that it's an internship. Its not an intership. The person will be learning from no one because there isnt anyone to learn from because he refuses to pay for that sort of role. He's an absolute embarrasment of an owner, a charlatan of a man and I'm surprised he hasn't tried to force it on the Ducan Smillie Propaganda Wing.

The internship is at ADEO a partner of Rocks who will give direction and guidance to the individual, they will be working alongside a top team at ADEO, I also think that Rocks last intern went on to work full time at the club, hope this helps

Well I think I ‘ll go for it - my first action will really impress Duncan. I’ll declare Eagles as the 2020/21 season champions as they’ve won more pre-season games than anyone else when BBL finally abandon the season.

Way over 20 years of support reduced to this!! Just because I point out that the social media team are not fit for purpose!! Which they aren't! Lol
