Not much substance but on the face of it very good news. Click hereI find myself agreeing with Hersey. There’s no money until the check clears and “reassurances” mean Jack all. Something about this “statement of intent” bothers me. Why would the government publicly bail out the BBL and not other sports they are far more commercially successful? What about hockey, netball, etc. I hope not because it is really important to black and minority people and because of BLM. Is any people involved in the running of basketball even black?? The other thing, any rescue should be with grassroots and not a “pro league” that is hardly professional and depends on busted American hack looking for a pathway into better jobs in Europe. No details about this and in my opinion more spin and window dressing by the BBL. Netball deserves money from govt bailouts. I live in Lambeth and there is no sign of BBL in my community!! I call BS on this!!

Hockey already cancelled the season
Netball has a league which runs for three months in the spring.
Any more stupid questions?

Just because BBL didn’t cancel it’s season doesn’t mean it should get a bailout. I would argue that hockey and netball were savvy enough not to wait until the this point to cancel where the BBL is just playing some type of game around its importance to black and minorities. If the BBL gets money, there are a lot of other sports that are far more deserving. Dude, come correct and don’t insult my intelligence. Can you elaborate on what games the BBL may have played in relation to ‘black and minorities.’

Say again?
Read my words. Netball plays a 3 month season in the spring. Hence they don’t need any support. It’s really not hard.
Hockey cancelled. BBL is providing players and coaches with jobs and doing everything it can to continue to do so. And in some way you talk of that as a negative?!
And I’m not your ‘dude’.

If the BBL gets the cash it'll be because the government flip flopped on a start date. Players were brought in, venues were booked , pre-season was started avd money was spent. I do understand if those words are too long for you

BBL clearly knew when it asked for a bailout this summer that it would be in this position and it proceeded to hire people anyway when it knew it would not reasonably be able to pay them. That is fact. Window dressing all around. The BBL should seek private capital and let any government relief go to grassroots, wheelchair basketball etc. I’m sure the basketball governing bodies could use the money. Also, aren’t there some billionaire owners in the BBL in Bristol and Plymouth? Seems a better source of funds than taxpayer money. Oh, 777 has some money, BBL should tap that resource, but oh, I forgot, it’s a sham organization. Lay with dogs, you get bitten by fleas!

The bbl will get money. Will you admit you're wrong then?
We tip off tomorrow. You absolutely promised it would never happen. Will you admit you're wrong then?

The BBL should seek private money and government money should go to national leagues, grassroots etc. And if the BBL gets money, so should EVERY sports league that has lost ticket money due to the governments flip flopping. I’m sure the government knows the backlash it will get if they do otherwise.

Somehow I don’t think he will
But his/her lack of attention to detail is striking for someone who has such strident (and nonsensical) opinions.
The BBL didn’t ask for a bailout ‘in the summer’. It asked for some money in March to finish up the season. Didn’t get it.
It then recruited teams with a view to starting with limited crowds (as was the plan up until September 17 when the test event in Newcastle was moved to behind closed doors). The government took that option away so, like many other sporting organisations, it requested compensation.
The millionaire owner stuff is just ridiculous. Rugby has millionaire owners, it will be getting money. The Championship will be the same. Multiple million pound companies exploited the furlough scheme for profit.
In fact the whole concept that sports were ‘savvy’ in cancelling their seasons is trumpesque.
And I can’t be more damning than that.

And yeah I am sure the thought of a few quid out of the treasury’s pocket for basketball will cause a ‘backlash’ amongst middle England and all those other sports leagues.
(Of which incidentally national league football already has its money, league 1 and 2 will do once the shakedown of the premier league is over and rugby union will do once twickenham reserves run out) [
And with rugby league not starting until February there are no other leagues.
So I n reality you are just talking bollocks.

The fact that government steps in to rescue small obscure sports in the U.K. is just plain odd. But then again, you guys have free healthcare. That said, I see why basketball in the U.K. is where it is now. No risk, no reward and without private capital, all it will ever be is what we see now. Shame really. But if that’s good enough for you guys, good on you. Just keep that talk about ever being competitive outside the U.K. to yourselves, never gonna happen given the state of things.

Yep, everyone you read it.
Now the NHS is compared negatively to the American healthcare system.
I think you just made my argument for all of us.

I just clicked with it.
Ron Scott Gareth from wherever Yeoman Dunkster
Embarrassingly transparent.
(For those who don’t know Ron is an american fantasist who 15 years ago announced a league to go against the bbl, which 15 years on, has yet to play a game. He didn’t have any teams or a plan but was an inveterate name dropper who has accomplished the square root of nothing in a decade and a half. He has stamina, I’ll agree. But he’s not even a busted flush because he never even had a flush in the first place).
