Surely there is more to it than simply we've decided to go another way...

Wow, that's a surprise. Always thought he was the heartbeat of that team and was instrumental in the hold Sharks seemed to have over Eagles last year. Always enjoyed watching him play.

It's surprised me too, but the Sharks obviously see something needs changing, and it's better to change now if you think you need to rather than leave it.

Staggering. I've watched most of the Sharks games so far this season, and McKnight certainly doesn't stand out as someone who needs replacing. Koch and Nichol both appear to be more wasted as import slots then he was.
I agree with youngrocks, this smacks of something behind the scenes that we won't ever know about.
Nevertheless, let's see how good the new guy is!

Good to see the organization responding to results and trying to get better but like others surprised to see the change at pg. McKnight has grown on me over the last few years - he is consistent and competitive and the crux of the Sharks system. I personally thought other players were more in the firing line - inconsistent, unable to influence the game at key times and unable to adapt to the bbl refs. Maybe this is a kick up the backside for them too. But as they say, carry on doing what you're doing and you'll keep getting what you get.

I thought he was the last of the 4 imports we'd cut. He's steady at both ends and fairly consistent.
I would have got rid of Koch myself who is so inconsistent.
See what the new guy brings I suppose.

Atiba seems to think scoring or lack of is the issue To me though McKnight is a steady point guard who runs the team well, defends well and is consistent most weeks with what he does. Yes he may only get say 10ppg but thats not his job. Koch is woefully inconsistent still a year on. Rarely does he dominate games from Q1 to Q4. He has spells and odd games but his lack of foot speed makes him a liability at times in transition (which we have noone to spell with Tuck/Marsden as slow). Nicholls and Lillard have shown flashes but both have got into foul trouble and not sure either are going to be consistent scorers. McKnight was the last one I would have got rid of. Lewis's woeful offensive production most games means we are like 1 starter down too on current form. I think we need some dynamism either up front or a shooting threat. We are still too slow. We needed consistent scoring, three point shooting or some inside play we can count on all games in the summer. Not sure we have addressed any of these. Non are awful but the recruitment again smacks of a side happy if they finish 5th-8th. I thought the signs looked better v London but seemed I may have jumped the gun. The last 3 games we have looked awful losing by big margins early on and clearly not prepared to start games well enough.
