I'm interested in hearing people's thoughts on the Manchester Giants rebrand. Their colour was green. On the scoreboard this evening the colour used for Manchester Giants was green. But their kit is black and white (which is very much Newcastle's brand). And the National Basketball Performance Centre is blue. So what is their team colour/colours now?

I'm in the anything but green camp. The Black and White looks good. Fair enough. Plymouth have the green. And there are more BBL teams than there are colours, so some teams will have the same colours; it's inevitable.

I actually like their new logo... more 'fresh' than their old one. But black and white team colours does seem to maybe be becoming too much of a thing. We've now got Newcastle (who obviously have dibs on it), London, and Manchester. Also, as I've said elsewhere, this feels like more of a relaunch than just a rebrand. Great start to the season and I'm hearing lots of good things from behind the scenes. I really wish them the best of luck, I'd love for Manchester to have a competitive basketball team. And it would be great for the league too.

Fresh is a good description but it looks more like something for a clothing brand and doesn't actually say what it is. What I can never understand is why when you can pick what colour you wear teams pick the same as other teams and why don't they keep the same colours can you imagine if a football team were to change their colours?

Aren't London only doing it because of BLM though, that's what I take from it anyway.

I could be wrong though.

I'm wondering if the Giants have deliberately gone for very neutral, basically colourless, so that a big sponsor could come in and dictate the colour scheme. It could make them more appealing to a potential sponsor.
They're obviously not sentimental about their colours, like a football team would be. Annoying for fans who have bought all the green merch though.

Yeah it happened to Cardiff - I don't believe the change was particularly well received and was rescinded a couple of years later

Didn't they change the badge and the club nickname too, I feel like a dragon was involved?

Not a fan of the new branding. Some make like it and that is great, but for me it doesn't work. The logo looks like that of a company that makes gymwear, not a sports team, and the black and white "colours" are bland and indistinguishable. The old branding wasn't perfect, but the logo worked well. Much like the LA Lakers logo, a simple basketball with the team name over the top told people exactly what they were (a basketball team), what the name was and where they were based.
The Purple and Green colour scheme was also fairly unique (though Raiders also have a shade of green of course). Now they look like a copy cat London Lions, who inturn copied Newcastle Eagles/Brooklyn Nets - also not a fan of them ditching their gold and purple colour scheme btw.

I didn't realise, the London Lions logo is now black and white. And the Manchester Giants logo doesn't even include a basketball. Both could be presenting a clean slate to any big sponsor who wants to come in and dictate the branding of the professional basketball teams of Britain's capital and second city.

Manchester population 553,230 (2019) second city? I think Birmingham population 1.149 million (2019), Leeds 792,525 (2019) and even Sheffield population 584,028 (2019) might have something to say about that.

It's between Manchester and Birmingham but Manchester is ahead in public opinion. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_city_of_the_United_Kingdom#:~:text=Sandra%20White%20(born%20and%20raised,city%20in%20England%20after%20London.%22 Leeds and Sheffield don't even get a look in.
