American Iona College star Rickey McGill finally flies in to bolster the Plymouth Raiders roster.
Raiders have been tracking McGill for some time and originally announced his signature in August prior to uncertainty surrounding the league start and the global travel situation.
McGill, the 6’ 2” Point Guard made his pro debut for Athens based Panionios last season in Greece’s top tier, HEBA A1.
Contributing on average 8 points per game, 3 rebounds and 4 assists, McGill has demonstrated his talents in one of Europe’s toughest leagues and is raring to go in the BBL.
During Summer 2019, he joined NBA side Sacramento Kings for their pre-draft workouts where he subsequently caught the eye of European teams.
In addition, with the recent news surrounding Andrew Lawrence’s extended absence, McGill is expected to make an immediate impact in the Raiders backcourt.
23 year old Rickey added:
“I’m super excited to have signed for the Raiders and can’t wait to get on the court and represent the City of Plymouth,” said McGill.
“Coach has told me great things about the fans and city, so I am looking forward to hopefully entertaining them and bringing success to this club. I’m grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to get started.”
Coach Paul James:
"I’m very happy that Rickey McGill has been able to join us. He was in our plans at the outset but conditions at that time brought real uncertainty, so this is great news. He is a Guard who comes to us having played his rookie season for Panionios Athens in the very tough Greek A1 League. He is a tremendously quick and dynamic player who can score in many ways as well as being a great facilitator of the ball.
"He plays with great intelligence and attitude and we are very pleased to have been able to sign him. He is a great addition and we are sure he will excel and contribute greatly to our season going forward."

Big raiders fan but relatively new to basketball in terms of understanding how good new players and teams are (basically anyone not in the BBL over the last few years I’ve not clue of the standard they are playing at).
Should we expect McGill to be at a high level and take raiders up a level or not quite on that level ?!

The Greek league is one of the more stronger leagues outside of the NBA so should hopefully be a quality signing.

Top-flight Greece where he played last season is a top 7 league in the world.
Looking at his stats he wasn't a starter it seems. I imagine he'll be a very good guard for the bbl just don't expect him to light it up in his first game mate
