I feel gutted, we played far from our best and one of our worst shooting/team games.. only good thing to come out of it is we should of won at the end of the forth. If we meet again in the playoffs the outcome will be different I’m sure of it. Should and would have won if you didn’t turn it over carelessly at the end of the 4th 😭 😭

It's insane that McGill was top rebounder by some margin on either team. He's some player.

Why on earth does Rob still favour Jamell Anderson over Heron? Heron was on fire in quarter 1, but still ended up playing less minutes than Anderson during the game.
Some comparative stats from tonight's game
Anderson Heron Minutes played 22.46 20.52 Points scored 0 11 2P 0-3 1-4 3P 0-2 3-6 Def Rebs 3 5 Off Reb 0 2 Hardly ever do I see Anderson even try for an offensive rebound Assists 1 2 Turn overs 2 0 Index -3 14
By anyone's reckoning, on tonight's showing, Anderson is a liability, which we can hardly afford going into the playoffs.

It’s because Anderson is probably the best defender in the league. He makes the stops whilst the others do the scoring at the other end. Defence wins championships.

I am aware that many fans think that, but if he was that good he'd be a shoe in for the GB team, which he is not, and Riders would not have let him go to Cheshire Nix when they did.

Not just the fans that think it. Ask the players. Or the coaches. He's probably the best and definitely the most versatile defender in the league. His offence is what it is but he tends to play within it. He's become a solid spot up shooter who can knock down the corner three. Runs the floor really well and picks up fast break points. But he's not going to create off the for hismself or others with any real consistency. If he ends up having to do that its a team problem. Thats not what he's out there for. Would tend to agree about Heron tonight though. Started hot and was a little surprised we didn't see more of him in the second half.

I kept asking why he wasn't brought on more in the second half too. Nevertheless, Paternostro managed the players to win a game we looked like losing so what do I know. So glad we have him. Riders did what no other team has done for a while. Some achievement. On top of that we did it with Falzon injured, Nelson-Henry injured and Crandall (still injured) knocked all over the place.

You make it sound like Heron's been really good. The guy's shooting a putrid 26% from three point range, 36% overall. His jump shot's been all over the place. His shot selection is questionable at best and he's pretty much a nonentity in terms of creating offense for others. Does have some pretty good handles and quickness, certainly for a wing, but I hardly ever see him put the ball on the floor, draw in the defense and find an open shooter or cutter. Seems to me like almost every time he drives he forces up some sort of shot, no matter how tough. I understand why fans were excited about this guy. He did look very promising on paper. And he's almost certainly a more naturally talented player than Anderson. But thus far, I think he's been pretty disappointing. 24 mpg is plenty in my opinion, given the quality of his contribution to date. 2019/20 was the best season of Jamell's career statistically. Strangely he's now following that up with one of his worst. For the first time in a while he's not really been a reliable spot up shooter and he's become a bit of a non-factor offensively as a result. In some respects he's reverted back to the kind of player he was his first few years in the league. But he's nowhere near as bad as you frequently make him out to be. And I've not seen anything consistently from Heron to suggest he's nearly as good as you seem to believe. Turned in maybe 3-4 decent performances in a dozen tries, and produced a few nice highlights along the way but that's about it. An apparently injured Zach Jackson was making a better contribution to the team, and playing slightly fewer minutes.

I'm sure Chris Paul, the 26 year old NBA All Star was trying really hard against a 14 year old kid. As if something like that means anything

Anderson produced some of his best performances while Ward-Hibbert was playing for us. Think the competition for court time brought the best out of them both.

Perhaps you need to read the piece on the Riders basketball roster site about Mustapha Heron, particularly the second paragraph, and then tell me that "Anderson is probably the best defender in the league". Raiders could have done without that turnover. They could also have done with not allowing Geno to go coast to coast for an easy layup in the space of about 3 seconds on the previous possession. But they were only up 2, with 23 seconds left in the game and 9 on the shot clock when McGill dribbled the ball out of bounds. So not 'in the bag', no.

Thanks for that, a very enjoyable and educational read.
Dave Forrester really does know his stuff, and there is no doubt that Jamell did a brilliant job against Jordan Williams in that particular game, however it is only certain games where he performs to that level, and I would simply like to see more from him in the majority of games.

Somebody once told me that being a coach is just like being a tradesman. You need a toolbox (team) with lots of different tools in it (versatility). Its no use having a toolbox full of hammers. You need a mixture of tools for different jobs/occasions. And sometimes a job wont require every tool in your tool box. Cheers

Pretty sure it wouldn't have been possible for Raiders to dribble out the final 33 seconds.
