Eagles for Europe? Know it’s been on the cards for a couple years with the arena. Must be a far few sh*tting themselves on the continent watching Fletcher this season I think the invite for entry into Europe goes to the league winners first. If they decline, the play-off winners are then invited. Anyone can enter BCL regardless of league position. You just may not get accepted

Must be a far few sh*tting themselves on the continent watching Fletcher this season 😂😂😂😂 No one in Europe is sh*tting themselves about a BBL team. Hopefully Vince spends the summer spending all the money he’s been given on a quality team rather than his awful wardrobe Not much love for London on here! Terrible season for the team. Positives- Liggins and Williams who were immense (although Liggins had his blips- I guess that’s why he didn’t last in NBA - lack of consistency)? -JRob proving he’s the best PG and captain in BBL Negatives- Coaching - time for a proper coach surely Vinces clothes- his jackets joke are no longer funny- grow up man (and don’t wear kicks with a suit - especially at your age) Budget - meant being able to buy Liggins and Bristol (until it all went pear shaped) - but proved money means nothing if you don’t bring home the goods. Home grown BBL talent - over reliant on old timers (all of whom in their day were great players in BBL) Big JoeIk, Spenser, Lockhart, Ward-Hibbert, Walker

Bit harsh on JWH that. Coming off a bad injury, fairly underused. Plus he’s only 27 (old timer?!)
Most clubs would kill to have a Shane Walker as their twelfth man.

Awesome result from a Newcastle/ small town perspective, and also a good result from the perspective of rewarding franchises that comply with salary cap requirements.
If you had told me that Eagles could beat London shooting 38% I’d have laughed at you, but will happily take what’s given. Having had a year when Newcastleoutplayed teams but conspired to lose from winning positions it’s ironic that they have managed to win the quarters, semis and final of the play-offs from double digit deficits. Hats off to everyone.
Parker aside, and some terrific assists from Liggins (who incidentally shot 2/9) London disappointed me again. So much depth and talent and so little return for their investment. If Lockhart was fit (?) they must regret not using him at the point rather than one of the chosen options.
As for Cortez Edwards. 3 points (1/4) and 5 rebounds at half time. 2nd half 19 points at 70%+, plus another 7 rebounds. And a few assists thrown in. Stellar. And made up for a comparatively disappointing night for Fletch who was well shackled (just a double double but nothing spectacular....).
Finally top marks to the league, Sky and particularly all the teams for delivering an exciting full season despite COVID. Possibly the greatest achievement of all (and we all remember someone telling us that not a single game would be played),

It rounded off the season with a really exciting game which had drama in bucket loads. Riders & Eagles have a great rivalry which goes back years but there's a mutual respect which I like very much. There seemed to be an edge between the two finalists. It added spice to the game alright. Great for neutrals and a super finale to bring the curtain down on this season. Sky did a great job.

Start by saying congrats to the BBL and its member clubs on delivering us a full BBL and WBBL season - many a dark spell the last 6 months have been brightened up by seeing live british basketball even if it was on a tv or pc. Then congrats to all involved at buzz16 and others on the fantastic quality product delivered onto sky and not just the quality of the broadcast but all the wee extras like mic'd up and player interviews and insight.
Huge congrats to Ian and his eagles squad - how many times, especially in the playoffs, did they look out of it and just showed us otherwise. All the HT and post game interviews not just in playoffs but over the season one thing comes across - the massive trust, respect and confidence in each other and what they (players and coach) are trying to do would come good even if there were spells in a game where the shot did not fall.
Did Dan Routledge do the commentators curse talking up here are the two highest scoring teams - not bothered. It was tense from start to finish and I founf it great entertainment.
I hope both clubs manage to retain most of their players and would be excited to see both these squads when we are finally able to get into venues and see basketball with crowds. I have a habit of watching games and thinking 'be great to see them in glasgow as a rocks player' - and plenty on show today I'd sign in a heart beat.
How long till the 2021/22 season starts?

So the circus packed up their tent and left town, But did the Ringmaster really have to depart by having a pop at Geno Crandall,
Post game interview Vince said “ Tonight we saw the real MVP of the league, Fletcher doesn’t have to pass the ball behind his back to get the win”
Absolutely classless but typical of such a clown. Don’t forget to return you dress to the fancy dress shop today Vince.

...and Fletch regularly passes behind his back anyway. I’d hate to lose Vince from the BBL - apart from still letting Eagles win despite his team budget, he’s always great entertainment, including his pyjamas !

In having a pop at Geno for being voted BBL player of the year he was actually trashinhg the choice of the seven coaches who voted for Geno! Of course Vince, they are all wrong and you are right!
And to top it all he throws Dirk Williams under the bus for picking up "silly fouls".
Talk about bitter.
Still, it all adds to the drama.
Have a good summer people.

For what it's worth I didn't really think it was shots aimed at Geno but more trying to be gracious in defeat and congratulating your opposition. I'm looking at it with a Newcastle bias though, so am more worried about them poaching our player. Was a really grind it out sort of game, which as was mentioned in the commentary suited Eagles a little more. Been a strange season for us but 2 more trophies in the cabinet is amazing, especially with the competition ramping up this year. I think Coach McLeod's demeanour suits the big games as he appears to be able to stay so calm even when things are going against us. Ive enjoyed this season much more than I thought I would this year, the television coverage really helping make us feel more a part of things. I'm gutted we didn't get to see anything in person and hope most teams are able to run things back next season, as there has been some amazing talent out there.

Zero chance of Vince coaching next year at Lions after this season surely ??

I don't buy that it was being gracious in defeat. Liggins said in his pre-game interview that he thinks Fletcher is the MVP of the league. Both Liggins and Vince could've chosen their words much better if their intention was to big up Fletcher. Doing it by dragging down another player is not a good look for either of them.
I like that they did say it though, adds a bit of spice to the league and words won't be forgotten next season.
I did enjoy Vince suggesting that Fletcher missed both of his free throws at the end, which shows how much attention he was paying to the game. No player would try to miss both free throws when up by two, you would try to make both and make it a four point lead. Only after he missed the 1st, and was noticeably annoyed with himself, did he potentially try to miss the second on purpose.
Looking forward to a summer of checking Twitter accounts for new follows of potential players and watching YouTube videos of new signings.

One final post from me this season... Firstly congratulations to the Newcastle Eagles, further cementing their position as the most successful British basketball team of all time. As for Lions, with losing by just 2 points I can't help but think having Justin Robinson playing could have provided a very different result. But it is what it is, it's not his fault he got injured, and Lions wouldn't have even been in the Final if it wasn't for Robinson's performances in the Semi Finals. I could sum up Lions performance in that game and the season with the same comment. There's clearly something there, a strong foundation of what could be an amazing team. But it's not a finished product yet, there's something missing, simply put it's just not as good as it should be. Trophy winners, Cup runners up (which will forever be debatable due to Covid) and 2nd in the Championship... A successful season? Certainly not as successful as it should have been. It'll be interesting to see what changes are made over the summer. But congratulations to the BBL, all the teams, and everyone involved for completing a full season in unprecedented challenging circumstances. I've thoroughly enjoyed it, it's been a highlight in amongst a difficult year. Thank you. And finally, thank you to everyone in the What'sBev community. I've enjoyed the discussion throughout the season. I'll be taking my usual summer sabbatical from these forums so I hope you all have an enjoyable, safe and healthy summer and I'll be back in the autumn.
