Original linkDARYL Corletto plans to make himself at home at the Emirates Arena tomorrow and the Plymouth Raiders guard has just cause. One of the British Basketball League’s most prolific scorers, the Australian has revealed his intention to sign up for Scotland’s campaign at next year’s Commonwealth Games in the land of his birth. His immediate priority will be to lead the Raiders to an upset in the BBL Trophy final against Leicester Riders at the Emirates Arena, just a few miles from where his father Paul was born before emigrating from Glasgow to Melbourne as a child. Yet 12 months from now, the 35-year-old might be lending valuable experience Down Under should the Scots successfully make their case for a berth. “It is kind of a weird feeling,” Corletto admits. “But it was something that came up a couple of months ago. It’s exciting and if it happens, I’ll jump at it. To play in a Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in front of family and friends would be excellent.” Following the ancestral trail may be less enjoyable. Losers of seven of their last eight games, Plymouth will be outsiders against Leicester who are looking to retain the Trophy before capitalising on their large cushion at the head of the league table. “Last weekend, our play was disgusting,” Corletto admits. “It’s up to us to come out on Sunday and play with a lot more energy. We had a long chat as a team on Tuesday. A lot of people are saying Leicester has pretty much won this because they’re on a three-month winning streak and we haven’t been able to beat ourselves. We know we’re going in as underdogs. But if we all click at the same time, there is that thing that in a one-off game, anything can happen” The Riders will hope for a double success in Glasgow with their women also expected to prevail when they meet Sevenoaks Suns in the preceding WBBL Trophy final. But Leicester’s Scotland internationalist Erin McGarrachan is wary of the pressure on both teams to land a first major honour. “We never take anything for granted,” she said. “We have faced them before this season so we know what they’re like as a team. If we both show up on the day, it’s going to be right down to the wire.”

Ashamed to say, I only know of Achara and Murray

I also seem to remember that Eddie Matthews could represent Scotland, he has a Scottish parent.

Rumours going around that Stephen "Jock" McCurry and Hamish Durant have also mentioned something along the same lines. Legendary power forward Rab C Nesbit however confirmed his days of international competition are behind him.

The CG are in April. How does that work?
Scotland are chucking a lot of money at this- Wales were massively grateful for a free game in January- i really don't see the point.

All of the goings on, and they are good goings on, around the Scotland national team, the Glasgow Rocks, and the Caledonia Pride is all in preparation for the Commonwealth games which the home nations are not guaranteed a place in: www.mvp247.com/2016/12/commonwealths-create-minefield/If Scotland has to 'prove their competitiveness' then the likes of Corletto and Vigor can only help. Even if their Scottish blood is a little dilute.

I like international basketball but, given the standard of this competition and the massive logistical problems, I question if it's worth the effort

I can't help but feel that it's a lot of money thrown at a lot of bollocks that few people care about.

I think if you had the chance to represent your country at any sport you would do all you could to make that happen.
I loved the CG's when they were in Glasgow and would cheer on any sport being played by our national team.
Whether or not we would qualify is another matter, but why not put yourself forward to be in with a chance, we send teams for all sorts of sports we don't really have a chance of winning medals in, but is that what it is all about, or is it a chane to prove yourself against the best the Commonwealth has to offer.

I take your point but it's highly unlikely you'll get in. England- who should blag their way in due to GB's ranking -will play you but any other country who you might beat has no incentive to let you take their place. Wales may as well quit now

Corletto Is under contract in 2018 and I expect him to be here. He personally said in a private message that his dream would be to finish his career playing in front of friends and family back home so maybe this is it.
As with Vigor the man is Scottish, his family is Scottish and HE was born there, no dilution no exception. Made it clear from the moment he signed with raiders that playing for Scotland was his goal.
Pg.... SG daryl SF Murray PF Achara C Vigor
I'm glad I'm Scottish ! Even if my blood isn't as pure for some of you guys

Even though their seasons are over, colleges are really stroppy about releasing players mid term. Apparently - when it suits them - they like them to attend classes

NO to Corletto Very good 2-guard makes himself available for a country that, when you look at the squad, struggles in the 2-guard position. It could be the difference between playing at the Commonwealths and not playing. Only 8 teams play. This is a good thing.
