Happy birthday, Ball Blog. I've just re-read the "London Calling" suite. It was memory lane and glorious. Just reading the blogs brought back happy feelings of better times, but also your horribly accurate predictions about the future- 2012 onward. I'm glad I was there, and it was great to be reminded of that glorious summer. And just how we all desperately wanted to believe that the GB public would finally (finally) start to understand what we happy band of 'bevvers - and frankly most of the rest of the world - love about basketball. Optimism eh? Overrated. Actually, I think it's kinda cool that just saying "Actually I like basketball" gets you odd looks, and that we're outside mainstream UK sports. And certainly whaaaay cooler than supporting some dreary old kickball team 300 miles from home. Having met many fans, I'm wondering if actually, we prefer it being 'our' backwater, where we have access to the players, the coaches, and 'our' teams. I'm not sure, despite all the rhetoric, that many BBL supporters have ever wanted it to really become popular. We wouldn't be mysterious and different if 20,000 started turning up at BBL games. But anyway, many thanks Hersey. Here's to the next and subsequent anniversaries. |

Lions got a shiny new venue, but it's hard to think of anything else. I know what you mean about basketball being a niche sport but there's large chunks of the country without a club that actually promotes the game as a spectator sport. 11 pro clubs is shocking, really, if we got it up to 20 or so it would be some kind of progress. |

The Olympic legacy was just a rouse to get the olympics. Sounded sincere as relayed by Seb Coe. I’d rather have put all the money into facilities for clubs to use throughout the country.

The guy who couldn't bear that someone started a thread about my "retirement" from D1 so he hijacked it with his vitriol. The supposed mate of Justin Robinson who claimed that the Lions captained attended games when suffering from Covid.
I could go on, but I'd risk being (almost as boring as you. But take a look at yourself before you pass judgement, and maybe consider that you don't HAVE to read my blog & you can always trot off to the other place and continue your career as Topcata

DTB - all you do now is pretty much come on here to poke Hersey, get the inevitable reaction and then cry wolf.
Outside of letting you have it with both barrels Hersey actually has some interesting, sometimes controversial, thoughts and opinions on basketball. Backed up by a huge amount of experience gleaned from involvement in the game.
People like him, Dave F, BIGZ and others were what kept me coming back to BEV.
The sort of inane crap on the other board is too dull to contemplate. Nearly every post twisted to be about Riders. 1000 pages about a meaningless "testimonial". Desperate attempts to spark fake debates that my local newspaper would be embarrased by.
You are right though. BEV has collapsed and thats a shame. We now have the worst of both worlds. I'm going to post something about the NBA G5 now.

Well I think this place is breathing. It's a small group but we are having reasoned exchanges across a small range of topics and given its off season that's no surprise. Only DTBs continued repetition of subjects athat drove people away is a negative. But we have something to build on.

What? after modding this place for gawd knows how long? ) But I've been away for what, 3, 4 years, and its the same as ever - idiots calling out the old hands, people saying the board's dead, then slagging off anyone who is still around. I guess close to three years without a post sees you revert to rookie. Really it should be "retired" or possibly "Klay". So where have you been?
Bev isn't dead, it's smaller than it used to be but has been quite good later. It'd be good if you stuck around.
