With time on my hands (it's June, even the NBA has finished I created a blog. it's imaginatively called daveballblog.wordpress.com/ which took me hours to think up. It'll be a mixture of my current (entirely random) thoughts about the game - at any level, I'll watch anything from under-11s to the NBA - and some archive articles that my vanity wants preserved.
It's a no-frills job, if I get a reasonable amount of hits I'll look at making the lay-out a bit better but if you're after flash video, this isn't the place for you.
I'll get at least one article up each day for the first couple of weeks, and take it from there. Enjoy, or ignore

if you're after flash video, this isn't the place for you Awww man! Was looking forward to some grainy static camera footage of a dunk, shot from the other end of the court, preferably preceded by a travel. Great read by the way - will be following your ravings!

Hersey, (as always), an entertaining read, albeit that I can recollect reading your Olympic ramblings first time round. Come to it, notwithstanding it will be a good read, I may well remember lots of your other retro stuff.
That's got me wondering how many of the old school faces are still around - just the other day I was wearing my WhatsBev t-shirt that I won from one of the annual quizzes. Not sure when that was, but likely to be around 2000ish... Fruit of the Loom quality.
Your Leopards history material always makes me smile - I can recall often going to Docklands Arena e.g. when Playboy were the title sponsors and there were even Playmates 🍉🍉 taking part in HT shootouts...

Enjoyed that I bet you can't keep blogging something new every day though I probably could - during the season - if I was being paid. But I twigged a while ago that making a (proper) living out of basketball journalism was as likely as Mr Potato Head becoming a proper coach.
There's a couple of "new" articles today. Obviously London Calling gives me a decent amount of content to start off with.
Solly - my favourite memory re Playboy TV was Billy Mims claiming it was a "family channel"
Gonk - I chucked out my old WB T-shirt the other day, it was a bit tatty (it must have been at least 10 years old - back in the Jez days) and seemed to have shrunk, because that's the only reason it wouldn't fit.
Thanks for the feedback folks.

There are WB T shirts?! Tell me more... Oh yeah! And durning the summer to keep the board active Jez used to run this cool quiz thing that we used to play in teams or 3 or 4. The WB Summer Shenanigans.

I think Hersetta bought mine.
These days we have the Plymouth Raiders Circus to keep the board active.

Really like the blog - I hope you do manage to keep the posts coming during the busy season, but it's not easy! (I tried a blog once. Lasted about three weeks.) Sorry to hear the last hope of a reprieve has passed, though.
As for the Whatsbev t-shirts, are there any pictures of these fabled garments?

It's the two week anniversary of my blog, nicely coinciding with Day 13 of the Olympic blog - the day that shook the world. If only it had Obviously I've relied a lot on the archive stuff during its early days, but I am interested in feedback/ideas to keep it going over the summer. Obviously it's tough to find a lot to write about when there's no basketball, so any suggestions would be welcomed. When the season gets going I'll probably try to cover Divisions One & Two as there's to suggest in BE's list of super new jobs available (for people who nothing about the game) to apply for that they're going to bother writing about their leagues.
Bump over

Bump over I would be interested in a blog that purely followed the work you have to do running your club I imagine it's very interesting Are wages involved, expenses to players/incentives to sign. budgets, etc who decides what to offer players to sign the workload and the stress. Promoting to the fans Kind of like a diary of a year running a basketball club And it wouldn't need to be daily Just once every few days an update - when you've had an interesting or unusual day re the above Eamon dunphy started the craze for this 40 year ago when he wrote a diary of his season as a footballer

With players and coaches and negotiations!

I did that about ten years ago - for obvious reasons it was called "this morning I smelt fish" - and people enjoyed it (or claimed to). The problem is I'd need to be very careful with what I said. In the past I've been pretty cutting about a couple of Americans* we've dispensed with, that's pretty easy because they're never coming back and they're unlikely to say to a mate "I wouldn't sign for Leopards, just after you've left you'll get slagged off on the GM's blog". But I will try to talk about stuff when I can, I'll probably still get a call from BE every now again because some people don't like the truth (the nonsense with Ipswich being a prime example, but I'll stick with my "just play the game" opinion even if it pisses people off). The diary is probably the book for when I retire
Maybe I'll do an expose of D2 once we're promoted. I'm thinking of doing "on loan to D2" t-shirts just to wind people up
* I think there's an article there.

I'd be interested to read more about the ins and outs of running a club too, and I'm sure it would be useful for anyone who might be thinking about getting involved with running a club themselves. The occasional article giving a club's perspective on what could be done to improve basketball in this country would be interesting too.
As for some safe, uncontroversial topics which won't run the risk of a phone call from BE? Umm...

Oh you'll get the occasional article about me pulling my hair out about Leopards. All that's really going I'm not overly concerned what BE think. I appear to have a better grasp of the libel laws than them, and regardless of thoughts they may have, there is still the right of "fair comment"

Freedom of speech comes at a price I must remember not to upset Ipswich by stating the truth, though. My last post seems to have gone a bit wonky Oh you'll get the occasional article about me pulling my hair out about Leopards. All that's really going on is negotiations with players, and it would be suicide on many levels to discuss that in public.
