To my knowledge still the best online basketball magazine.
I’ve always liked hoopsfix due to the range of ball covered.
I’m guessing it must be quite difficult to extensively cover all aspects of the British game but I have noticed that the comprehensiveness of the brits abroad and brits in college isn’t what it once was. Also no report or box scores from the girls finals or the under 14s last week.
Does anyone know if there are other publications that cover these areas?

I think they're pretty much the main men. Employ me full time and give me a budget for photos and I'd give it a go, but they do a great job

Thanks for the kind words, and reading the site! I'll be the first to admit the amount of content and depth of coverage we provide has taken a hit this season; in large part because we (primarily me and Brad), are getting older and realising that we can do all the traffic numbers in the world but it doesn't actually help us move our personal situations forward in anyway (bearing in mind next year will be a decade since I started this project!). As many people involved with British basketball will know, it's a *tough* market to be in - add that in with content/news sites in general being extremely hard to monetise and it puts us in a tough position. I've explained this a few times in interviews, but Hoopsfix makes very, very, little money directly - everything we produce is done for free, and at a loss for us; our time is subsidised by the freelance contracts we have. The site has served as a portfolio of sorts, which has enabled us to get contracts with various different basketball organisations (both in the UK and abroad) - it is this money that funds Hoopsfix. As great as this is - i.e. I'm almost certain it means me and Brad are pretty much the only two people in the entire British basketball media space that are full time on just basketball - it also means client work has to take priority, as that is what pays the bills. It's not all doom & gloom though. We're working on some things that we're hoping are going to help make us/Hoopsfix self-sustainable and in a position to be able to drop clients and focus solely on our own projects, and as soon as that happens, we will be back to churning out way more, and higher quality content (for example, I'm in the process of building a make-shift video/podcast studio in a spare room in my building, which should really turn things up a notch with production options). We have big plans in the British basketball space, and are in it for the long term, which is why we're happy to take a step back at this point, as we know, over time, it will be two steps forward. :-) If you want a bit more of an in-depth look into the behind the scenes and what we're trying to do, here's a a video interview and a podcast interview I did recently. If you've got any other questions or suggestions, feel free to reply here or drop me an email - sam@hoopsfix.com - always happy to talk, we want to do everything we can to not only ensure we are doing the best job we can for the intended audience (you!), but also helping raise awareness and growing the coverage around the game.

Never listened to the podcast before but was great to get an insight into how the BBL operates from Andy Webb. Worth a listen if you haven't already done so.
Interested to hear details regarding new broadcasting agreement whenever they are announced.

I’ll admit I’m not a regular visitor to the website, but I did recently listen to the Andy Webb (Running the BBL) and Vince McCauley (Managing the London Lions) podcasts you did – and I feel I should let you know I thought they were excellent. Both gave a real insight into behind the scenes of British basketball, something that itself is rare and something that I don’t think I’ve ever seen explored in as much detail as your podcasts. A fantastic couple of hours, which I’m already planning to re-listen to.

Interested to hear details regarding new broadcasting agreement whenever they are announced. If you’re referring to the new broadcasting agreement mentioned in that podcast, it’s the FreeSports deal. The podcast itself is a couple of months old, and the interview was recorded just before the FreeSports deal was announced.

That sounds like when I told my wife that the BBC would be broadcasting a BBL game every Friday night, she was slightly surprised that the BBC had decided that the BBL would perform better than EastEnders in their schedule.

Sorry about bumping an old thread, but just logged in for first time in a while so wanted to reply to a few of the comments! One of the people british basketball is absolutely privileged to have around. Keep up the good work sam, hope the all star classic is a roaring success again this year. Thanks you, that means a lot; I think it went well in the end - planning beginning very soon for next year, so hopefully can continue to build and grow it. Personally I’d pay a subscription We actually recently launched on Patreon, so if you did want to support monthly, you are more than welcome - every little helps for sure! I’ll admit I’m not a regular visitor to the website, but I did recently listen to the Andy Webb (Running the BBL) and Vince McCauley (Managing the London Lions) podcasts you did – and I feel I should let you know I thought they were excellent. Podcast (complete with video, not just audio-only) will be making a return in the very near future, with more of these long-form in-depth conversations. I'm really looking forward to getting recording again!

Hello, all. It looks as though Hoopsfix and MVP were the only media outlets that actually covered the Riders–Bears game on Sept 20. I gave it some time just to see whether any other game reports would trickle through. (OK, I know that's not how the web works. Just wishful thinking.) There was nothing on the Beeb website or even on the Leicester Mercury's – and the hometown paper has covered the team pretty well. Did I miss something? Did the UK's return to European basketball competition matter so little that it merited no attention beyond the special-interest websites?

Sorry for forgetting to mention Game 2. But regardless, the big issue is coverage in the mainstream media – or even Leicester's local outlet (nothing shows up in a web search). Mark Woods made that point in the most recent Hoopsfix podcast. I'm just depressed that a British team got into European competition for the first time in a decade and sports desks across British news media were uniformly uninterested. (Again, aside from special-interest basketball websites.) Is there any chance that they'll attract attention for playing in the Europe Cup? I hope so. Generating public interest or curiosity outside the usual fan base could boost the Riders' following and, thereby, boost the team's spirits and chances. And any sort of success is bound to raise Britball's profile in a lasting way. Keep in mind the crowds that turn out for the regular season NBA games played over here. Why can't a fraction of the coverage the get seep through to sports pages? (OK, I'm not forgetting the dismal ticket sales when the European tourney was held at the O2 a few years back.) But what else could possibly work?

Good post. As far as I’m aware the only noticeable additional mainstream media coverage Riders’ European games have gotten so far is live coverage on BBC Radio Leicester.
