Lions linkFollowing a sell-out event at the Copper Box Arena back in April, the Big Ballers are back to defend their title against London Lions, London’s Professional Basketball Team. This is the ultimate grudge game with both teams having a lot to prove! Tickets go on sale tomorrow Friday 12th October 9am. When the teams clashed back in April the Ball brothers, Lamelo and LiAngelo, were on fire. Being coached by their father LaVar Ball, sixteen year old LaMelo scored a huge 39 points, 16 rebounds, 16 assists and 6 steals, whilst LiAngelo nailed a massive 44 points. The game ended 110-127 in the Big Ballers favour and the Lions now feel they have a score to settle. Aside from time on the court, the Big Ballers family are renowned for their reality TV show, “Ball in the Family” – it’s one of the biggest, number one shows on Facebook. Where the Big Baller Brand go a long line of fans are sure to follow and exposure for this game will be high, particularly in the US. They also run one of the most popular athletic and lifestyle apparel brands in America. Vince Macaulay, London Lions Head Coach said “We are ecstatic to be welcoming back the Big Baller clan to the Copper Box. Our last meeting was fearless and fast, with high point scoring. The fans continued to stream through the door and ultimately we had to turn some away – the atmosphere was electric! We can’t wait for the rematch and have some secret weapons – it’s our jungle and this time we want to come out on top!”.

Don't think it sold out last time did it? Seem to recall reading 3000 sold? (Which is really good but a long way off a full Copper Box I think)?
Looking at fixtures London must not be very scared of Manchester who they are down to play the next day and the BBL trophy will possibly be the night before so potentially 3 games in 3 days?

They played 4 games in 5 days when they played the equivalent fixture previously. That included games against Eagles and Riders.

I think it was more than 3,000... the arena was pretty much full on both tiers apart from behind the baskets on the upper tier which were cordoned off. So maybe 4,000 - 5,000... maybe they sold out the seats they made available, but no, the arena wasn’t at capacity. I think it was a Bank Holiday, don’t know if that typically helps or hinders.

Secret weapons wise above lions probably need some Lithuanian legend or similar to get their fans who came in big numbers last year to come back. Assuming the Balls aren't going to be playing in the Lithuanian team this time. Didn't the Lithuanians have lots of support there or am I getting mixed up?

Surely one of them is going to end up a lion!! I don't think you'd lose much replacing Bristol with lamelo and what you'd lose in talent youd make up 10 fold in exposure!!

I have equal amount of respect for LaVar, LaMelo, LiAngelo and Vince... and its good for the exposure of the game in the country (I think!). But please make it a real game of basketball.

These 'Ballers' seem to think extremely highly of themselves, so I'd dread to think how much they'd want paying if they were to join the Lions. I'm not convinced they'd provide value for money. I know they'd bring a bit of exposure, but how many people outside of die-hard basketball fans know who these guys are. It's not exactly like when Brighton (briefly) signed Dennis Rodman many years back.

The huge mix of fans that were at the Box last time would certainly suggest that. I was sitting next to a father & son who had very little knowledge of the game, they knew what a dunk was and they knew who the Ball brothers were but that was about it!

Well the moment one of them has a good or bad game the US networks will be all over it!! Just like when Liangelo scored like 70 against a Chinese under 18 squad!!

Ok, I get your point, I agree they’re more ‘showbiz’ basketball than ‘real’ basketball. I guess what I was saying I don’t think many people actually know who they are, in the UK at least, so I’m not sure how much exposure it would actually generate. But maybe I’m just not ‘getting’ them.

Pretty sure both Ball's left their Lithuanian side before the end of last season so there shouldn't be any danger of them showing up with that lot. I imagine Lions will likely be playing 'Team JBA USA'. The JBA (Junior Basketball Association) is some dog and pony show recently set up by Lavar. It's apparently designed to be an alternative to college basketball but I think it's more just a platform to make his two lesser sons look like world beaters. LiAngelo averaged 50 pts and 11 rebounds per game this season. LaMelo averaged a 40 point triple double. Shouldn't imagine there are any Lithuanians playing in it. As for the 'secret weapons'... Maybe Vince is going to charge onto the court mid-game, hit LiAngelo round the back of the head with a steel chair, then deliver a Stone Cold Stunner to LaMelo. These games have zero credibility as genuine sporting contests anyway, and the marketing is WWE-esque in places. If they're gonna go for it, why not go all the way.

While I know anything can happen, I still think they'd struggle for a work permit. They haven't done 4 years in college, they aren't in a pro league and their traveling circus team is run by their dad
