Now that we’re a few games into the season I’d be interested in views as to the move to 3 premier leagues.
Personally I think it’s an unmitigated disaster with the competitiveness of both premier and regional leagues being diluted. The number of uncompetitive games seems to ha e increased and the disparities between top and bottom in the prem north league is far to big
Personally would like to see a return to the 2 tier prem and if there are 2 north west regional leagues they should be a genuine 1st and 2nd with only the first going forward to play offs. There are teams playing prem that should be regional and visa versa. Teams on the margin should be asked to play each other pre season to ensure they are allocated to the level that will beat develop them and the rest of the clubs
After 3 games a nd not wanting to be disrespectful to the other teams it was clear in the north west 1 regional that Phoenix and Liverpool would blow our all teams excapt for when they play each other. A 123-19 result benefits neither teaml There are potentially 5 teams in north west 2 that could have been competitive in north west 1
EB simply need to genuinely start discussing matters at a much earlier stage with representatives from the clubs If the governing body can’t get a simple thing like consultation and structures right what chance does our sport have to develop?

I discussed this with Hersey recently on his blog. I think junior national league basketball is actually a flawed concept myself.
I would rather the “national league” was a league made up of the official regional squads for each age group. I think this would provide meaningful competition and help develop the elite pathway for outperform talented youngsters.
Basketball regions are all affiliated to BE. Why not get them to concentrate on local county or city leagues? Let them then put their champions forward for a regional tournament to decide who the best club in that part of the country is and perhaps then from that have a national club tournament. Again this is a more one off event per season, removing the ridiculous need for travelling at all the age groups.
I’m tired of seeing the larger clubs, academies and private schools hoovering up talent from relatively far and wide and then caning smaller clubs who are often fielding virtual novices in what is meant to be a high level of youth basketball.
In this I do feel a little for BE. Conbasketball kiting entry to the various national leagues is impossible. You rely on the clubs pitching their teams at the right level. I’ve seen some in the so called second tier national league who surely must’ve known they were going to be thrashing the opposition all season long. Pretty lame way of racking up wins.
Anyway that’s my view!!
