I like the idea of an all-star BBL team, that would be one way to seriously compete in Europe! I know it’s probably against all the rules, but there was talk recently about the Euroleage being interested in a dedicated London team (i.e. one that didn’t play domestically), so is it such a farfetched idea? Would FIBA allow it? Would the BBL (and it’s respective teams) allow players to play for both their teams and a BBL All-Stars team in Europe? Tune in next week for another of my hare-brained ideas… Leopards and the lot you let die explored the idea of a combined London team . It never happened. But we did get killed by a combined Icelandic team as a consolation. daveballblog.wordpress.com/2018/06/19/europe-a-cautionary-tale/

Was there not an Irish team following that kind of method in one of the European competitions? Am I getting mixed up? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibernia_BasketballGreat idea, although it didn’t work for them - they didn’t win a single game and finished last in their group. But I think the idea is a solid one... if the BBL were to do similar it would be a great way of promoting British basketball internationally. It would feel like we were cheating just a little bit though.

Not an outlandish suggestion at all to be fair.
If they can assemble a roster along the lines of:
PG: Justin Robinson SG: Import SF: Import PF: Hamilton C: Bryan-Amaning
Bench:
Ed Lucas Will Neighbour Import big man Washington Dang Okodo Jackman Tayo
Then I'd be really excited to see them enter Europe.
I know everyone is assuming Tayo will be at the Royals next season - and you may be correct - but I can't see him going to be 12th man. That fact alone gives me some hope that Surrey will retain him !

Not sure if I want a team that narrowly beat Riders to win, or a team with a brit on it to win....
Either way, I've more of an interest in this game than I thought I had!

Sadly No ... too busy doing stuff but ... 2 pages, 40+ posts and over 2000 views is good and I consider that a successful thread. I would hope that Sassari win, but hey, this is basketball and anything is possible (Wurzburg are German after-all !!) Never been to Wurzburg, but I have been to Sardinia (Cagliari region) and it was good ... nice Ice cream as well Blueskies, will you be wearing a Dynamo shirt for the final leg ? edit Given that Riders were knocked out of the Champions competition by Sassari, and assuming they go on to win this Cup I suppose it would have vindicated Riders reason for entering Europe !! cos', theirs no shame in losing to the winners of a major European competition after-all !! ... no doubt some fans on here would disagree but I would consider that a success. ...Am I wrong ? ... feel free to post

It’s a logic I’ve often comforted myself with… if you’re going to get knocked out of a competition at any stage, then you can’t get better than it being by the team that ultimately go on to win the whole thing.

I thought it was a great game to watch. Once again the gulf in quality between European teams and the BBL was obvious. Even I think that Sassari may have had 2/3 more gears to go to when they played Riders. It makes the second leg interesting. That guy Rashawn Thomas was immense!
