First round of the trophy starts this weekend. The nature of it means that a favourable draw can quickly see a team go quite deep. Sharks and Lions will be feeling rather hard done by, whereas Thunder may feel they've got a great chance....

Raiders will do much better in the BBL Trophy than in the BBL Cup because they’ve got a pretty easy route to the final in brackets they’ll get past Flyers in the First Round at home then beat either Rocks or Wolves at home in the quarter finals then beat either Scorchers Royals Thunder or Wales in the semi finals over 2 legs first at home and then away and then more than likely play either Lions Eagles or Riders in the final in Glasgow

Not trying to annoy anyone (for a change) I've got riders winning this and it being their only trophy all year

Not trying to annoy anyone (for a change) I've got riders winning this and it being their only trophy all year I voted for Raiders because they’ve got coach Paul James to guide them to a BBL Trophy final with his fully fit team who play hard as well and the threats of the legend Donte Nicholas the pacey point guard Josh Wilcher the powerhouse/beast Rashad Hassan the 3pt shooting master Devontavuis/Uno Payne and of course not forgetting the hitman Joonas Järveläinen to help the team get there of course

Thanks for that

Isn’t this poll flawed? We’re voting for who will win in the first round, right? Then why can we only select one team… surely we should be able to predict all 8 winners?

It's not flawed, it's just poorly written. It should say who will win the competition, but polls can't be edited.

IF Sharks get passed Lions then I fancy us to go on and win it.
Then again you've really to put your money on Lions, unless we beat 'em of course.

Removing the guaranteed home game for the non BBL sides seems a bit counter productive. I guess there's some logic though - Plymouth had to play Boroughmuir in what was (and still is) effectively a gym hall with very little room for anything beyond the court lines. Do we really want to guarantee teams like that a home game? There's not even any revenue in it for the home side!

Disappointing that the guaranteed home game for the 4 invited teams policy has long gone, although Gonk's point does highlight the potential perils in such a policy! Nevertheless, Solent could easily host Cheshire at Places Leisure / Fleming Park as the facilities are very good. Crowds seem to be fairly decent as well so the lure of a BBL team would create a decent atmosphere. I reckon it'll be most raucous at Worthing when they host the Scorchers. A few years back i was at a Thunder-Heat game there and it was packed with a fabulous atmosphere.

If the only way Scottish teams can't properly stage a game, I guess they have to go on the road, but St Mirren pulled out and I find it hard to believe Edinburgh would have agreed to step in if they'd been drawn away to Plymouth. I don't see why that's effecting the D1 sides. The whole lure of entering was a "big" home game. The Trophy's been regionalised north/south for most of its history and I can't see why that's also changed. I wonder if the cost of Plymouth's trips to Boroughmuir, Brentwood, Worcester and Glasgow were actually covered by a home game against Wolves and their split of the final ticket sales.

St Mirren, Falkirk and Edinburgh (not sure about the latter) should be able to stage a home game with a reasonable enough crowd, I would've thought.

Then they should be inviting clubs who can stage a game in front of a crowd and guarantee them a home draw

Definitely don't quote me on it. I'm working on the assumption that because Lions are game number 1 in the bracket that they'll be home in the quarters. Thinking on it, it's a pretty crap theory!

Giants v Lions 10th & 14 February Royals v Rocks 12th & 17th February 2nd leg of the Lions/Rocks semi-final on Valentine’s Day? Really? How am I going to sell that to the wife!? Feel free to make jokes about giving her the gift of a semi though.
