I'm heading to the Hatters v Riders game this Saturday - looks too close to call, should be a good one.

Well that game lived up to the billing. Neck and neck all the way through, Hatters just shading it until Winterburn and Elmore dragged the Riders back into it. Hatters didn't defend the last play amazingly well but kudos to Elmore for draining the three to get the win right on the buzzer. My brother captured it on video that is being played out by the WBBL facebook and twitter feeds. Sarah Toeaina was outstanding for the Hatters; best player on court out of the 2 teams in my opinion.

Sun 23rd Dec 2018 - WBBL Game Reports
Nottingham Wildcats 60-59 Durham Palatinates (16-11, 32-27, 45-44)
It was a nail-biter, but Nottingham Wildcats continued their recent renaissance after pipping Durham Palatinates in their pre-Christmas meeting. In the last game to be played this calendar year in the WBBL Championship, Wildcats signed off on a high with a thrilling victory – thanks mainly to some eye-bulging numbers again from Jasmine Joyner. Leading scorers – Chelsey Shumpert 18, Jasmine Joyner 15, Siobhan Prior 8 (Wildcats); Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby 22, Monika Bosilj 15, Betsy MacDonald 13 (Palatinates) Turning point – Durham had the chance to win the game with only a handful of seconds left but missed the shot and who else, but Joyner grabbed the rebound to make the game safe for the hosts. Key stat – Durham gave up a staggering 26 offensive rebounds to their opponents. Meanwhile Wildcats made hard work of things after missing more than half of their 13 free-throws. Game hero(es) – Joyner posted her second amazing performance of the weekend to make it a win double for her team. While she had a shocker shooting-wise in the first half, it didn’t stop her recording a huge double-double of 15 points and 26 rebounds, as well as five blocked shots and 3 steals.

Having attended the Wildcats/Durham game yesterday, Joyner really is our most important player. She dominates inside defensively and picks up a fair few offensive rebounds too. Shumpert puts up a lot of shots each game but she has proved her ability to sink them down the stretch when they really counted. With our next game coming against the Hatters, it'll be huge if we can pull off a win but I feel Sheffield will be too strong for us.

Chelsey Shumpert (Nottingham Wildcats)A bonafide season MVP candidate after her scorching start to her rookie campaign in the WBBL, Shumpert was integral to the win at Mystics. She brought the backcourt noise for Wildcats with a super 26 points and 9 assists. Tia Weledji (Caledonia Pride)Caledonia Pride produced their best basketball of the season to put the visiting Cardiff Met Archers to the sword and Weldji was at the heart of it. She poured in 26 points and added 12 boards and 4 assists. Brea Elmore (Leicester Riders)
It was a sweet win for Riders as they pipped Sharks on the road and fittingly, Elmore hit the buzzer-beater. She had been the standout player in the contest and eventually harvested 21 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Roya Rustamzada (Oaklands Wolves)There have not been too many high points for Wolves so far, but this was very enjoyable as they took the win at Durham. It’s a debut berth for Rustamzada who spearheaded the victory with an impressive 21 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Jasmine Joyner (Nottingham Wildcats)The forward had two weekend performances that were starter-worthy, but none more so than her spectacular near triple-double at Mystics. Joyner brought the power big-time with a jaw-dropping 19 points, 23 rebounds and a majestic 9 blocked shots. Off the Bench – Urysla Cotton (BA London Lions), Harriet Ottewill-Soulsby (Durham Palatinates), Sarah Toeaina (Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters), Tijana Dukic (Cardiff Met Archers), Loren Christie (BA London Lions), Siobhan Prior (Nottingham Wildcats), Evelyn Ovner (Manchester Mystics).
