Is there a big Irish community in Leicester?

Is there a big Irish community in Leicester? Nope It fits in with what a team in USA might do in a city with a strong Irish presence. I understand the idea of limited edition jerseys but St Patricks Day isn't really celebrated in England other than in Irish bars is it? I am scratching my head a bit.

I like the idea of limited edition jerseys. What occasions does everyone think may work over here?

I had seen someone on the Riders' FB asking about St George's day. Would that be something likely to shift a few jerseys?

Not sure whether we will shift a few jerseys for things like this or not tbh Parents buy kids jerseys when they start supporting. I guess it's whatever is available at the time. Not sure how many fans collect jerseys so to speak although I dont think it will be many of them

And they'd have to be discounted from the usual price to sell in any numbers imo.

Welsh have St Davids (and their own language), Scots have St Andrews and Burn's night. If anyone suggests celebrating St Georges day ... were labelled 'Imperialists' , 'nationalistic thugs' on a par with the likes of Farage and the national front. Sorry state of affairs these days. Its political correctness gone mad ... rant over

Not quite sure I understand this one. I guess technology makes short production runs feasible so it makes more economic sense, but meh.

I don't think you'd sell any but I love the idea of 1 off jersey games like this. Dunno if a different day would work better or not but think it's a cool idea. Maybe we could have a retro night next season? All clubs have a kit in the design of their original one?

Don't know if Paddy's day is really celebrated in England but there's more than just Irish pubs get filled. Like some one said it's just a good excuse for a p##$$ up. We don't even celebrate St. George's Day. Well I do being in Scouts an al. Sounds a bit like what they do in Ice Hockey. Shirts for just about every event going, valentines, remembrance and more. Would a basketball shirt allow for such designs making them worthwhile purchasing?

Must add that the ice hockey, well, Steelers shirts are either raffled off or auctioned off afterwards and the monies raised goes to charities ( I think )

There's a lot of good things about England but it seems to be difficult to celebrate them. Without wanting to get too political, it seems easier to be nationalistic (patriotic?) in Wales or Scotland than it does in England.

I hear the Eagles are bringing out a “doomsday” shirt to celebrate moving to a winless venue

I like the idea of limited edition shirts, and that merchandise opportunities are being explored more in the league. St Patrick’s Day seems like an odd choice for a town without any particular Irish connection though. I know Riders had their 50th anniversary a couple of years ago, which seems like a better opportunity for something like this?
Eagles could have done something for this year too to celebrate moving into the ECA - maybe replacing the Tyne skyline on the back with a silhouette of the arena?

Only problem with a one-off is if you lose, it's forever associated with loss.
Like Manchester United and that grey shirt they had years ago.

Don't get me wrong here, the green shirt looks awesome, think its a really nice design and as someone with Irish roots I'd probably buy one if I was a Leicester fan.... In fact I'd go as far as to say I prefer it to the red. Genuinely do think its a nice kit.
That said - whats the connection here? Is there any part of the Riders that's in any way of an Irish background?
It just seems a bit ill thought out as a concept from the outside looking in - yes the NBA do it in certain places but Paddy's day is more commercial over there than it is in Ireland - the amount of Americans that sit disappointed on Paddy's day in Dublin is hilarious (I overheard one say he couldn't believe the Liffey wasn't dyed green and another that didn't understand why there wasn't a street parade and everyone was just hammered).
As Mr. T said a retro shirt would be a lot more befitting - the concept would be a lot more relatable to fans for me.

Surely themed t-shirts are better than themed jerseys? They’re cheaper and can be produced easier. Lions currently have a Cup Finalists t-shirt available on their shop website, for example.

Tenuous as it may be, Kevin Routledge's wife (Ursula) is Irish and I believe that Dan Routledge often supports some of the Irish sports teams...........

Anyone going to stump up the £35 for one of these? Can't stand the green myself, although the 'guinness black" looks nice!
Riders are obviously desperate to flog, as already had 2 emails wanting me to buy
