Right obviously I know he's not the favourite but COTY award.
How far is Danny Byrne away? He's knocking out huge names in the Cup and trophy, he winning more than he's losing and set for a playoff place.
In the 2014-15 season Andreas won it, they finished 8th in the league that year.
Am I miles off for my thinking? Anyone else agree?

Vince will get the plaudits for leading the lions to a sweep (if he does, and I've got to be honest I can't see them being beaten to it at the minute), but Danny deserves credit.

Sat close to the bench last night at the new arena so could hear a lot of what Danny was saying to the players.
I don't know what other coaches are like (apart from Ben at Nix) but it was refreshing to see that not once did he have a go at a player for a mistake. He was all about looking forward, calling plays and trying to lift the players.
You could see how the players reacted and the way the players put it all out there on the court must have a lot to do with the way Danny manages his players.
Long may it continue.

So on the subject of coaches, whilst I was watching some of the superbowl last night I realised where we were going wrong. Looking at the array of coaches on the side the teams seem to have a coach for every section of the game, kicking coach, defensive coach attack coach, special teams coach, head coach, waterboy coach. Looking at the Phoenix it's clear that Ben and the others are doing really well in certain aspects of the game. We have played this season 23 games including cup/ trophy games and we scored 80+ points in 18 of them including 11 over 90, clearly we have the attack side all sorted. The only trouble is stopping the other team from scoring more hence the need for a defensive coach to complement the current coaching team, plus the extra money to pay for one!!! Have I discovered a new aspect to the BBL previously not thought of??🤔🤔🤑🤑🤔🤔
Edit......played 24 forgot Lions on Friday......

Good idea, Bert must have another inexperienced pupil/mate/family member he could bring in. 🤣🙄 Would that mean 2 men shouting at players? 😤😖😩

His managing of minutes and the bench in Sunday's game when we were down 3 players deserves a lot of credit.

Ditto for Daryll - oh no - wait...... Very much from the outside it seems to be a harsh on Darryl. A big margin of victory over Riders and road wins against Nix and Raiders. Both of whom have been in good form recently. The final was disappointing but still a final. He was given a tough task with existing pro’s involved in the recruitment and one does wonder how supportive they are of their coach when results arn’t good. He made the decesion to take the captaincy of Kieron and things have improved. Coincidence? 3 coaches in less than 2 years would a change be beneficial? At what point do you stop blaming the coach?

I'm inclined to agree with you Faz. The reality is our team just isn't very good but capable of a few decent results. How much better would an experienced coach do with this team? I'm not sure. Our form has been decent enough over the last five games or so and from looking at the league table now as opposed to earlier in the season, we are in a much healthier position to get Top 8. Although from what I hear the Rocks have already approached a new coach.

If you’ve heard that I’m guessing Darren has too which seems somewhat tacky and contradicts everything the owner was espousing in his interviews. So 4 coaches in less than 2 years! He’s outwardly supported the existing coach, tried the experienced successful BBL coach then the internal candidate. What path is left. Feel sorry for Darren. Any hints as to who he approached?

The Vince path is left! He can take over the coaching himself...

I think Vince will get it this year, but if Riders win the playoffs then RP might well be the man. Personally I have enormous respect for both of them, both are deserving in my view.

Genuinely don’t know who he approached. I know it’s not Coffino though. We won’t be seeing him at the Rocks unless there’s a complete cleariyt of players and owners!

If Riders only win the Play-Offs what has Rob actually done this season to deserve Coach of the Year? I'm not saying he's not a hugely successful coach, but this season (so far) has been far from his best.
