The British Basketball All-Stars Championship will return on Sunday, October 13 at the Copper Box Arena, London, with tickets on sale from 10am on Monday, February 18. Featuring multiple 12-minute games, an All-Star 5-point line and the Golden Buzzer Power Play, the British Basketball All-Stars Championship is a non-stop afternoon of fast-paced basketball action which returns in 2019 for its third year. The tournament will again showcase the best of British basketball talent, with defending champions Surrey Scorchers joined by the top seven teams from the 2018/19 BBL season. Double elimination will be in play to separate the teams from eight down to four ahead of the semi-finals and final. Surrey Scorchers were crowned 2018 All-Stars Champions after a thrilling 36-33 overtime victory over Leicester Riders, while London Lions won the inaugural Championship in 2017. Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn said: “The British Basketball All-Stars Championship is one of the most exciting afternoons of the British basketball season and has been well received by fans and players alike since its inception in 2017. “We saw huge growth in the event in 2018, and a spectacular final between Scorchers and Riders. The tournament is now a key date in the basketball calendar, giving teams a chance to play for a share of a huge prize fund and players the opportunity to showcase their skills in a great arena in front of an excited crowd and a global TV audience.” Bob Hope, British Basketball League, Commercial Director added: “The British Basketball All-Stars Championship, now in its third year, is one of the most popular annual events in the British Basketball calendar. This exciting, one-day format brings together eight of the top BBL teams, along with five hours of live coverage on Sky Sports TV, as well as a wider worldwide TV audience, and the biggest prize fund of £100,000 for any UK basketball event ever. “Thanks to Barry Hearn and his Matchroom Sport team for their belief in and continued support for basketball in this country and, in particular, this outstanding occasion. We are expecting a huge audience at the Copper Box, London for this nail-biting event.” Tickets for the 2019 British Basketball All-Stars Championship will be available via www.allstarsbasketball.co.uk with tickets priced from just £24, with children half price. An early bird ticket discount will be in place when tickets go on sale on Monday, February 18 reducing prices by up to 33% to £26 (gold), £20 (silver) and £16 (bronze). Group discounts are available with one free ticket for every 10 purchased. The 2019 British Basketball All-Stars Championship will be broadcast live on Sky Sports and by broadcast partners around the world. www.bbl.org.uk/british-basketball-all-stars-championship-returns-for-third-year/

Assuming Scorchers don't finish top 8 this season ? I'd be pretty pissed off if my team finished 8th in the league ... and don't get an invite ... Hmmm !! ... Controversial ?

As a scorchers fan, delighted to be able to defend out title, but only if we get their on credit, and that to finish in the playoff spots, I know I would be annoyed if we made top 8 and didn’t get to go to the dance

I think the fact that teams know now that 8th isn't good enough should be a strong enough reason for them to accept it. If they'd waited 'til after the season had finished though.....

"The tournament is now a key date in the basketball calendar" ... is it ? ... is it really ? It is the most financially lucrative tournament these shores have to offer.....

sad but true Bigz ... sad but true That is my exact thought on the matter as well. It really shouldn't be - but it is.

No that I care, I need to emphasise:)

Im one of those strange people who's somewhere in the middle in so far as I think its a really interesting and fun thing to watch, and really did enjoy Surrey's success this year, but at the same time it absolutely shouldn't be the most financially beneficial competition we have.

Totally agree. The fact that winning could increase a clubs income by such a proportion is ridiculous. But that aside, the games are fun to watch, yeah they're hectic as anything with all the extra rules/4 point line/golden buzzer etc. But it's not trying to be too serious, they want people to have fun watching it, and for that I think it's perfect.

So can any Scorcher fans tell us how the 2018 prize money has changed things for them ?

So if you finish 8th this year what have you got to look forward to?? Not being invited to the " most exciting " jamboree next season and one more game at the end of the season away to the league winners Lions/ Riders. Hmmmmm, can't wait!!!

What should 8/12 probably with a losing record get you?

What should 8/12 probably with a losing record get you? I'll get back to you in that one after a bit ( lot) of thought.

That’s one way to look at it. Another is not have a chance of winning a share of £100,000 for an afternoons work. Love it or hate it, it’s still the most financially lucrative competition in the British basketball season. Why would you not want to be part of that?. I’m looking forward to it.

I know some Rocks fans who attended last year and plan on attending this year as well.
I'll probably watch it on TV. Quite enjoyed it last time.

It's not a huge share, though. There's also potential to lose money on it. Rocks certainly did in its first year.
