Essex Rebels 56-100 Durham Palatinates (12-22, 23-48, 44-79)
Durham Palatinates eased to a convincing road win against Essex Rebels to continue their momentum ahead of the benecos WBBL Play-Offs. The Trophy runners-up join Nottingham Wildcats on a 10-10 record with two games remaining, while the Rebels fall to 3-16 in their debut campaign. Leading scorers – DeAngelique Waithe 26, Jessy Ward 16, Ozana Marginean/ Catherine Lutz 6 (Rebels) – Betsy Macdonald 31, Paula Tarnachowicz 19, Monika Bosilj 12 (Palatinates) Turning point – The Palatinates established an early double-digit advantage and never looked back, increasing their lead to 25 by half-time to set the platform for a strong win on the road. Game hero(es) – Macdonald fired in a season-high of 31 points to lead the visitors to victory with Tarnachowicz and Bosilj combining for a further 31 points in support.

Caledonia Pride 45-84 Sevenoaks Suns (11-23, 23-45, 36-64)
Sevenoaks Suns’ undefeated league record continued following an 84-45 away victory over Caledonia Pride. The WBBL league champions are now just one more win away from completing the 2018-19 Championship season with a perfect league record. Leading scorers – Pollyanna Storie 10, Hansine Marshall 6, Sian Phillips 6 (Pride) – Judit Fritz 17, Tayani Clark 16, Catherine Carr 13 (Suns) Turning point – Two minutes into the second quarter, Suns lead by a whopping 19 points but a valiant 12-2 run from the home side brought that lead down to just nine with just over three minutes remaining in the half. However, Suns would take control knocking down an unanswered 13 points, including two big threes from Renee Busch with just 30 seconds of the half remaining, essentially sealing the game for the league champions. Key stat – Sevenoaks’ defense were dominant during the game, forcing 33 turnovers from Caledonia and converting 43 points on the offense. Game hero(es) – Judit Fritz and Tayani Clark combined for a big 33 point performance whilst Jessica Good also put up a key 13 rebounds for the Suns.
Newcastle Eagles 77-59 Cardiff Met Archers (15-23,30-34,59-52)
Newcastle Eagles picked up a home win on Saturday, defeating Cardiff Met Archers 77-59. The North-East side, having already qualified for the benecos Play-Offs, will now head to Manchester next week as final placings comes down to the last weekend. Leading scorers – Georgia Ohrdorf 19, Steph Gandy 15, Kara Bonenberger 12 (Eagles) – Stef Collins 15, Robyn Lewis 14, Laura Shanahan 13 (Archers) Turning point – It was a close game throughout, with both teams trading leads and by the time the fourth quarter commenced, Newcastle were only ahead by seven, but they would then explode on a 12-0 run in the fourth, not allowing Cardiff to score a single basket until three minutes remained, giving Newcastle a strong enough lead to hold off the vistors until the final buzzer. Key stat – Newcastle out-shot Cardiff on the floor, converting just over half (52%) of their field goals and three pointers (54%). Game hero(es) – Georgia Ohrdorf knocked down a big 19 points whilst also putting up six rebounds and two assists
Nottingham Wildcats 79-58 BA London Lions (17-17, 41-29, 65-42)
Nottingham Wildcats are back up to fifth place in the WBBL Championship after ending the benecos WBBL Play-off hopes of BA London Lions, beating them 79-58 at Wildcats Arena. Wildcats move to an 11-10 record after a second defeat of Lions this season, with this being their first win in three games and only their second in the last eight. Leading scorers – Chelsey Shumpert 33, Jagoda Oses 15, Brahe Ashton 12 (Wildcats); Loren Christie 18, Urysla Cotton 10, Ejay Ofomata 10 (Lions) Turning point – After the first quarter was tied, Wildcats opened the second stanza with 12 straight points as Shumpert scored six of her 14 early points to help the score to 29-17, with the visitors scoreless for four minutes. The game was settled when, similarly, the hosts scored the only four points in the opening five minutes of the third period in what was a strong defensive display. Key stat – Wildcats shot the ball well, including 54% on the inside and a perfect 11-11 at the free-throw line, with all of those being made by Shumpert and Jasmine Joyner. Game hero(es) – Shumpert scored a massive 33 points to lead the victors, with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Joyner had a big double-double of 12 points and 17 rebounds.

Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters 76-72 Manchester Mystics (24-18, 40-32, 63-43)
Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters ensured they will end the season in at least third position thanks to a thrilling 76-72 win over Manchester Mystics. The result means the Mystics will be unable to catch the Hatters on points and must settle for a fourth place finish, while Sheffield can still end the Championship campaign in the second spot if results go their way in the final round of matches. Leading scorers – Alison Gorrell 28, Sarah Toeaina 20, Levke Brodersen 12 (Hatters) – Samantha Roscoe 23, Georgia Jones 14, Rheanne Bailey 12 (Mystics) Turning point – The home team made their move at the start of the second quarter, putting together a 10-0 run to open up the period to seize control of the game’s momentum. The Hatters established enough of a buffer to combat a late Mystics surge. Oaklands Wolves returned to winning ways with a 77-60 victory over Essex Rebels, on the road at Essex Sports Arena. Having already had their benecos WBBL Play-Offs place confirmed yesterday, Oaklands will hope to carry the momentum earned from today’s game into next week’s home clash with fellow post-season qualifiers Durham Palatinates. Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, Essex remain rooted to the foot of the standings. Leading scorers – DeAngelique Waithe 27, Cat Lutz 9, Barbara Corominas 6 (Rebels) – Meg Pritchard 13, Anneke Schluter 12, Tia Freeman 11 (Wolves) Turning point – The Rebels found themselves in foul trouble, early in the third quarter, and the visitors took full advantage. The Wolves turned up the aggression and attacked the basket with regularity, earning plenty of free throw attempts. Key stat – Oaklands were able to keep the home side quiet for much of the second half and held them to just eight points in the final quarter. Only Waithe managed to score in double-digits for the Rebels. Game hero(es) – Pritchard, Schluter and Freeman combined for 36 of their team’s 77 points, in what proved to be a balanced scoring display from the Wolves.
Durham Palatinates 63-55 Leicester Riders (13-13, 30-29, 53-38)
Durham Palatinates prevailed over Leicester Riders 63-55 in front of their fans, in the first meeting between the sides since this year’s Trophy Final. The win sees Durham leapfrog Nottingham Wildcats into fifth position, with Palatinates holding the aggregate advantage after the two sides split the league head-to-head. Despite defeat, the Riders remain slight favourites to secure a second place finish. Leading scorers – Monika Bosilj 15, Theairra Taylor 14, Rhianna Mae Laing 12 (Palatinates) – Jen Ashton 14, Brea Elmore 12, Dee Hayward 10 (Riders) Turning point – Durham came to life in the third quarter, racing out of the gates after the half-time break to outscore the Riders 23-9 in the period and establish a match winning position. Key stat – The home side allowed nothing easy, holding the visitors to just 29 percent shooting and under 60 points for the contest. Chelsey Shumpert (Nottingham Wildcats) The guard was her usual prolific self in the match-up against BA London Lions, racking up a massive 33 points. She also claimed an all-action 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Alison Gorrell (Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters) Hatters managed to dig out a hard-fought win against Mystics and much of that was due to the class of Gorrell. She registered a stellar 28 points and 11 rebounds – also handing out 4 assists Theairra Taylor (Durham Palatinates) It was a brilliant win-double for Palatinates and Taylor helped them add to their success against Rebels by starring with a near triple-double of 14 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists against Riders. Georgia Ohrdorf (Newcastle Eagles) One of the most in-form players of in the league in past weeks, Ohrdorf helped Eagles sweep aside the visiting Archers. She tortured Cardiff with 19 points from 61% shooting and added 6 rebounds. Jasmine Joyner (Nottingham Wildcats) It was another power-packed showing from the Wildcats’ frontcourt star as Joyner went to work on the glass against Lions. She corralled another super double-double of 12 points and 17 rebounds. Off The Bench – Betsy MacDonald (Durham Palatinates), Judit Fritz (Sevenoaks Suns), Kara Bonenberger (Newcastle Eagles), Robyn Lewis (Cardiff Met Archers), Sarah Toeaina (Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters), Angel Waithe (Essex Rebels), Meg Pritchard (Oaklands Wolves).
