For the two seasons he’s been with raiders he’s been given a lot of stick, but a superb servant, hard worker, has been a good player and an excellent ambassador for the club could seem him making a decent manager or coach somewhere.
Congratulations Zak.

Watching him work with the children at the camps I've done with the raiders he was brilliant. The first player all the children flock to and he absolutely loves it

And if he was at his size he would be playing a lot higher than BBL What do we expect from British big players at this level tbh? I saw him give Trevor Gruis a lot of problems once when we played Leeds and that was enough for me to think he wasn't too bad after all As Gruis was decent for us Anyway good luck to him.

If you really watch Zak player with no thoughts on what you expect from him you'll really see what he does and how well. Hes a small minute player but a huge part of our club

Seems a bit odd to retire at 7 ft who can set screens I think he would continue to get jobs look at dusha Sayers neighbour ect they always get roster spots

Zac isn't the most skilful but always does a lot of work off the ball freeing up others in the squad.

What skills do you want him to show more of? Dribble, shoot the ball, behind the back passes? Other than huge guards you see in the nba who else does this?
Retirement thread based around his so called deficiencies...

Wells puts in a decent shift. People look at his size and automatically assume he's an out and out big man. He isn't, which is to his credit.

In the 2 seasons I think he’s made me clap 3 or 4 times, if that was per game I’d be sorry to hear the news. I’ve never seen a basketball player struggle to catch a basketball quite like him.

Zak isn't the most talented big man in the league, but he does a valuable job, he won't get a highlight reel but he will help other people get a highlight reel by his positioning. He never lets his team mates down, he is always totally commited. I think he is probably too nice to be a really effective big man, some players are arseholes on court even if they're nice guys off it. I think Zak is just too nice & is just lacking a little aggression which is necessary when you're battling around the basket. I'd still be more than happy to have him on Lions bench. I hope whatever he is going to do next that he has success.

Said last time I'd not get involved in moronic discussions about what Wells brings and I won't, save to say good luck finding a British replacement.
Hope he finds appreciation for what he does in other walks of life....

might be decent bloke, but not good player tbh, just used his size to get places! Having googled him it appears age 17 he attended one of the "tall and talented" events where they look for Olympic athletes. He had never played basketball and it was there that they suggested that might be a sport for hm to go for. Prior to that he had been a boxer. So it explains why he's not a natural basketball player etc. Hes retiring age 26 to pursue business interests.

If the timeline is correct, 2 years after that talent camp he was starting in a dominant D1 team. I'd call that pretty spectacular progress. But as has not the next Dirk or Unicorn, I guess he failed :rolleyes

I just hope that Zak appreciates that each criticism he's received is hugely outweighed by how much his effort, intelligence, kindness and humour is appreciated by many, many more.
He's been really effective for Raiders this season in the role he's played. Emphasised by how much we've struggled without him.
