This could be a real non-event especially if VM and DD are still resting. Expect plenty of bench minutes .

Meaningless game for both teams Give your younger bench players the chance to show what they can do. Could be a good experience for them.

I guess it would be nice for Scorchers to say they didn't finish last?

Overtime in Newcastle - 90 apiece at the end of regulation, big 4th quarter for Eagles.

Wow fletch and Kyle pulled it around with their scoring. Checked the 3rd quarter scores on live stats and thought the worst. I didn't make the game tonight as traveling back from Scotland.

Tremendous entertainment from two flawed teams - Eagles not helped by being without Moses, Defoe, Smith and also Young Themba.
Somehow they still pulled out a win - you would never know it was a "dead" game. Full credit to Scorchers for their attitude and effort too.
Apart from the refs (who had a shocker) and Atwood's tremendous effort, I would highlight the contributions of Messrs Lasker and Flournoy. Fab played 42 minutes at 45 years old, contributed precisely NO points but loads of hustle, nine rebounds, a few assists and guarded players much much bigger than him throughout. Meanwhile Lasker popped in 10 points, pulled down 17 (yes, 17) rebounds, and added 5 assists with no turnovers. Model professionals both. They won't get the headlines but their contribution was amazing in the circumstances.

Well that was the most exciting non-event meaningless game I've attended yet - a total of 150+ bench minutes, producing 94 bench points ! Eagles 7 man rotation admittedly looked woefully inadequate for 35+ minutes, but the crowd was the 8th man, spurring on FF and DL in particular to a likely (before the start)/ unlikely victory. Thankyou Eagles for another great evening's entertainment at the ECA. One small complaint - why can't Howard tell us what is going on when it's needed, eg for Atwood's ejection tonight - he's always keen to "make some noise" when the opposing team has a free throw, or tell us how many minutes left when it's obvious on all 3 scoreboards/ 2 shotclocks, but never anything useful, especially for the newish fans who need the game explaining a bit if they're going to become regular fans.

You're giving him too much credit - I don't think Howard knows what's going on 99% of the time.

As everyone agrees it was a game for playing for no reason so I was surprised at a Fab playing so much. To me it would have been an ideal time to introduce some of the younger players in the Eagles squads, I'm sure some of the Uni/ second squad/ U23 teams would have welcomed the idea to show their talents. What we learnt last night was that Fab can play extended minutes contribute a lot to defence, organise the team but can't/ won't shoot but is a great glue for the team. Hang on we all knew that before so what we did we learn new from a "dead game"? Perhaps DD and Vic won't recover in time for play offs, is there any big men capable of stepping up ? We won't know from last nights game.

Really? There is no uni link any more (Northumbria pulled out of elite sport last year)
The only linked eagles team is an nbl4 team (u23s) If you think those levels compare in any way to the bbl then you are miles off.
It’s a pro game with over 2000 paying punters. Not a glorified local league.

It’s a pro game with over 2000 paying punters. Not a glorified local league. I'd forgotten that Northumbia had pulled the plug on decent sport, but thought there was a team playing higher than nbl4. There's obviously a big gap between BBL squad and anything else Eagles can call on in such a situation.
