Moses makes the team yet Eagles fans on here aren't convinced to even re-sign him next season
That's the only debateable one in the team for me
And I guess it's injury issues that give people concern on him

Now I'm not going to say I called 4 out of the 5 of these and didn't make a guess at the last spot, but take a look at the Defensive team of the year post..... Any team in the league who doesn't want Moses based on his game are telling porkies. The big if as IRF says is the injuries. He stays fit he's as good as any in the league.

Yes I went there π But I think he was only fully fit for a third of the season. Rest of the time he's either sitting or his minutes are being managed as he's playing through injury.

Thinking about it
What about MBA??
Royals could end up with 2 trophies (hopefully not) and no player in the team?
I'm used to Riders being overlooked as they are a team rather than individuals
Surely MBA is THE individual in the league?

For a guy of his ability and his reputation, he's taken one too many nights off for me.
He could (and should) have led the league in points and arguably rebounds (I'd have accepted second behind Willie C because his rebounding was phenomenal).
Not that he's not been good, but I don't think he's reached his own ceiling.

A player in team of the year with a 40 point loss to their name? Nah. MBA has had huge hype around him for years but hasnt played to that level consistently for me this year. Can see why he doesmt get a look in at GB anymore.

He's a quality player who until this season I couldn't understand why he wasn't a mainstay in the GB squad. I'm just now not convinced he's always team orientated, he clearly wants his team to win but I sometimes feel it's his own performance he's more interested in, hence he only makes it off the bench.

Yep but royals don't even get close to finals without him. Let alone winning them. He's got a strong claim IMO. As much claim as any other than Robinson. Because his impact on a team/game is enough to win trophies. Simple question - swap MBA with any other player in that team of the year and would the royals have won anything this season? Dont Royals revolve around MBA? Is it possible he's missed out because people expect more from him due to his wages etc? Is he taken for granted?

Itβs only just occurred to me that Justin Robinson is the only British player selected (in the starting five).

Off the bench β Conner Washington (Leicester Riders), Dirk Williams (DBL Sharks Sheffield), JR Holder (Leicester Riders), Ladarius Tabb (London Lions), Ashley Hamilton (London City Royals), Brandon Peel (London Lions), Matthew Bryan-Amaning (London City Royals).
The bench is more than capable of beating the team!

Clayton, Nicholas and Robinson pretty much no brainers but two Eagles players in the starting five doesn't sit particularly well with me tbh. Moses probably the more contentious selection given the amount of time he's spent either absent from Newcastle's lineup entirely or severely limited by injury.
The bench selections are... just an utter nonsense. I really can't fathom what the thought process was behind a bunch of them. No Riders player deserves to be there I'm afraid and it isn't abundantly clear to me what Hamilton has done to make the grade. Numbers are hardly breathtaking and he missed a fair chunk of time at the start of the season. I also find it quite strange that Brandon Peel has made this team but not the defensive team of the year. The guy's hardly a stud offensive player. If he wasn't adjudged one of the league's best dozen defenders this season (having been a starter on the DTOY last year) then I don't see how he gets in.
Chris Alexander and Quincy Taylor probably the worst snubs. Taylor's numbers this season are Robinson-esque. How Conner Washington has got in ahead of him is beyond me. Statistically, Conner has been just about the least productive starting PG in the league this year. He's a better player than that implies but TOTY material? Definitely not.
All in all a pretty terrible job. In my opinion anyway.

I get the impression Amaning thinks he is the best player in the world anyway so probably the award is beneath him.
If he was made of chocolate he'd eat himself

Had a big game in the Trophy final (I assume all competitions are considered). Opposite to your point on Peel he was an All Defensive team starter. His per minute scoring exceeds a number of players you've referred to ... Clayton, Nicholas and Taylor (and also higher than Williams and Wilcher who are two more of the leagues Top 10 in scoring average). I can certainly see why he would be deep into any discussion around a spot in a Team of the Year.

Peel was a starter on the 2017-18 defensive team of the year. He didn't feature at all this season. That for me was actually the biggest talking point regarding this season's DTOY selections. Not that Clayton only made the bench but that Peel didn't get in at all. Not entirely sure where you got those per minute scoring numbers from? Realgm has Peel just outside the top 20 in per minute scoring, behind Clayton, Taylor and Dirk Williams. And tbh, I feel like that flatters him a bit. He's an OK offensive player in my view but nothing more. FWIW I actually do buy that the guy's been a really significant factor in Lions' success and merits inclusion here but that opinion is based largely around the belief that he's an elite defender at this level, a view apparently not shared by others (this season anyway).
Fair point regarding the Trophy final. Probably was some sort of factor in Hamilton's selection. Didn't pay much attention to the game tbh. I still think it's significant though that he missed an appreciable portion of the season, regardless of when those games were played. Realgm only has him down for three more appearances than Tim Williams, someone I imagine most would believe has not played enough this season to qualify. I'm not suggesting that Hamilton is an utterly outrageous inclusion but I do think you can argue a number of others over him. I think he's got in partly on reputation. If he was some random new American that no one had previously heard of rather than a well regarded veteran Brit, I'm not convinced he gets the nod.
Switch Moses with probably Tabb and the starters look reasonable but I maintain that the bench is a mess.

Switch Moses with probably Tabb and the starters look reasonable but I maintain that the bench is a mess. Sorry my response was badly worded; I was referring to Hamilton (not Peel) regarding points per minute. I'm not suggesting Hamilton as a shoe-in to the twelve, but he should certainly be strongly considered. Selected as All-Defensive Starter. As mentioned his points per minute production is high. In arguably the five biggest games of the season for the Royals (Trophy Final and the Play-Offs) he's recorded a double double in each. Out of interest, MBA had no double doubles in those games. Again I assume all those matches are deemed part of the "decision" making. And if the actual voting took place immediately afterwards then their impact would be quite influential. A common debate about the League MVP is how much does that mean the best individual player and how much does it relate to his influence on his teams success. Hamilton gets a big tick on the latter with his contribution to the big games which has turned a solid debut campaign for the Royals into hugely successful regardless of tomorrow. Whilst I don't think team selections take much consideration of "team influence" I think they aren't entirely irrelevant I take your point re-Tim Williams. As I assume there is no official "minimum" for the voting and so it comes down to perception. Hamilton signed for the Royals pre-season, made his debut in early December and played 30 games. Williams debuted for Leicester in February I believe and played 22 games. So as a possible explanation (which I think you suggest as well) rather than a defence I think rightly or wrongly that is the difference. I think British players always get a slight "mark-up" in subjective voting anyway. Don't disagree that the bench selections as a whole doesn't appear particularly well thought out though.
